ReplyDeleteThat is a blatant lie. There were Rivera supporters there wearing his gear who stormed out when they didn't like what they heard: that the man asks for raises. Keep in mind: he is running for an office that requires far more and pays a lot less than his current one. Maybe his supporters left you out of the loop for a reason.
DeleteThat aside, this event was scheduled weeks ahead of time by a group of students who are not Republicans or Democrats. But after "No Show Joe" told them at the last minute that they were not worth his precious time and a party was, he showed what he stands for.

DeleteJoe cancelled the morning of the event. Not in the weeks before during which time he had accepted and was expected. The students were not given a chance to reschedule and work around Joe's elbow rubbing schedule.
DeleteMr. Rivera has been living off politics for a long time and just like any other old local politician, he doesnt get it, GET OUT while you still hold your head up high or you will end up as what you are starting to look right now, an embarrassment to your party (and no I am NOT a republican), an embarrassment to your friends, your peers and yourself and when those at the top want to stop using your services, they will help you get lost. Better yet, I hope the citizens of this county wake up and with their vote tell you GET LOST.

DeleteIt is not that Joe is a poor public speaker (which he is), but Joe Rivera can debate in this election without having Gilberto Hinojosa's had up his puppet ass. Joe is a pawn to Hinojosa, to help him save face.. The fact that Cameron County, State Demmcratic Chair Hinojosa's home county, has a Republican County Judge makes Gilberto look bad; or weak anyway. This election is all about that; not about issues or the people. That's why Rivera won't debate. Gilberto can't afford to let the incompetent Rivera be put in such a public venue....knowing he would look bad.

DeleteThe thing Mr. Rivera needs to accept is that he is running for an office where is he going to have to speak before those who are not his compadres. He will have to be able to persuade, dissuade discuss, refute, and even learn to articulate what the needs of our county are.

Attended a BISDs candidates function at the VFW, Wednesday Sept 23. As at all such functions nearly every candidate running for any office, Dem. or Rep. showed up an trotted around acting like their shit don't stink and hobnobbed with each other and the unsuspecting illterate electorate. My recommendation is that when Cascos and Rivera again meet at a public function, and they will, that Cascos publicly challnge Rivera to a debate in from of the audience. If Rivera has any balls he will accept or the two can duke it out outside.

DeleteI am a first time voter who went to the debate, I lived my whole life raised as a Democrat. After hearing Mr.Cascos talk I realised I am a Republican. I was talking to my classmates in class today and most of us will be voting for Mr. Cascos.

Campus numbers are the worst in the entire county. In a county where voter apathy is embarrassing, that tells you how important campaigning at UTB is to candidates. Cascos also has the worst kind of unethical person working for him, Cris Valadez. Aa a former Republican, I will vote for Joe Rivera based on what I know of both candidates. Cascos has done nothing of substance as county judge. Cascos is vindictive and will put himself before the interest of the citizens. Cascos interfered with Brownsville's emergency evacuation plan that called for using BISD buses by seizing them when he had no drivers, while Brownsville had drivers, but ended up with no buses thanks to Cascos trying to take over Brownsville's plan of evacuation, because Brownsville was getting all the media attention. Then Cascos interfered in a Brownsville project known as the weir damn, when he asked mexican officials not to support the plan that would provided water for Brownsville residents for the next 50 years and economic development. Then when I left office, Cascos went back to the mexican officials, asking them to support the project and that he would be the point on the project through the RMA with Pete Sepulveda. A formal complaint was filed with the state Emergency Management, because of his disregard for people's safety and Mexican officials told me in front of others, that Cascos was blocking the weir project. I think this kind of person is not what we need in public service. Of course, you are entitled to your choice and vote, but I respectfully disagree.
