Pat Ahumada Speaks Out on Tenaska/P.U.B., La Casa del Nylon Purchase, Mark Sossi, United Brownsville, Carlos Marin, the $21 Million Bridge to Nowhere & Missed Opportunites

From the editor:  Former Mayor Pat Ahumada responded not once, but twice to our article about Public Information Act requests to the City of Brownsville. In typical Ahumada fashion, Pat does not leave us in doubt as to where he stands with respect to the Tenaska/P.U.B. deal, City Attorney Mark Sossi, hired dured his tenure as mayor and the highly questionable purchase of La Casa del Nylon for $2,300,000. (Please recall Ahumada was a real estate appraiser in private life.)

Later, Ahumada adds additional comments about the United Brownsville scam, Carlos Marin and other "scammers."

BS! They fired Goza for not being at his post during the day, which is no different from Sossi who is never around and does really zilch. The PUB settlement was most assuredly handled by PUB lawyers, the city just raped PUB from the rate payers proceeds. As far as parlimentarian, the rules are made up by Sossi as politically fit for the powers that be. Obviously, he has proven that he cannot even handle a real estate transaction and the purchase was a scam. Nowhere will you find real estate valued or sold at the price of $2.3 million similar to the Nylon Building, because downtown is a depressed market. At a price of $2.3 million, you can buy a new building in a better location with parking. The old Greyhound Terminal, wh ich is a better constructed building on a city block of land with plent of parking sold for $450K, the Chinito Building with 50,000 square feet of leasable space on a city block of land with plenty of parking sold for $650K, the Baja Duty Free building one block from the Nylon sold for $205K, and the El Jardin hotel which the city could have purchased for $750K on a city block with parking and a building that qualified for historical grants to restore would have been a better buy and put to better use. The El Jardin could easily lease commercial retail space on the 1st floor and utilize the rest of the floors for public offices, i.e., city offices or customs, DEA, FBI, Parks and Wildlife, Border Patrol, etc. Restoring the El Jardin would have gone with the downtown revitalization, which is what I wanted to do, but Troiani, Atkinson, and Longoria blocked the purchase, which we had a possible grant to buy it with. Brownsville has a double standard and it is obvious. There are many different ways of scaming and stealing from taxpayers, but they tell you to smell the roses.

Yet, another comment from Mr. Ahumada:

Pat AhumadaMarch 31, 2014 at 7:57 PM

The sophisticated scammers know how to get manure to smell like sweet fragrance. Let's start with the Imagine/United Brownsville, which I exposed to be a for profit organization that benefitted Carlos Marin to the tune of $850,000 with no accountability to anyone and used all the taxpayers resources to put together all of our strategic plans, which they took credit for and have yet to accomplish anything tangible. The continue to benefit through inside deals and pocketing taxpayers monies to operate their dog and pony show that has no substance. Then look at the Port Bridge scam than netted over $21 million to everyone that stuck their hands in the port's cookie jar and no one was held accountable. Then, do not forget how PUB was in dire straits until I exposed the developer's subsidies for infrastructure to the tune of over $91 million dollars, which led to the highest utility rates in the state of Texas for the owners/Brownsville citizens. Then you have the close to 100 acres of the R.E. Smith property that belonged to the city and against my objections the weak commission gave them the land at a price of $700,000, but first the city had to relocate the Levee, which cost the city ironically $700,000 to relocate. Then you have the Jacob Brown scam with parking only that generated over $200,000 in annual revenue that was taken over by the scammers, forcing our city to replace a perfect good building that they depreciated by 70% to purchase it for almost nothing from the city and the cost to accomodate them was over $19 million to replace what we had. Don't forget they almost got the City Plaza Building, they sold us the Cueto Building, then rented back to the university at no cost to them and at a loss to the city, if they built parking they needed. Now, I ask, why should we buy a building, lease it back to them at zero cost and give them credit for building parking they need and is at no benefit to the taxpayers. Amazing! Amazing! Amazing! And, they called me a thief when the bank teller filled out a deposit slip and wrongfully deposited a check into my account that was immediately returned upon discovery. Jesus! I am a saint compared to the scammers you all put into office. LOL!

  1. Congratulations to Pat for exposing in a clear and factual manner the great "La Casa del Nylon" chingaso. What I want to know is where were all the "professional" appraisers in Brownsville when this shit was going on? They not only have a public duty but also a fiduciary obligation to speak up when they see this kind of crap take place? What about the guy who did the appraisal? Is there no accountability? You got it, the pinche, boracho shimper is a lot more listo than the Harlingen blanquito lawyer.

  3. And they make fun of Mexican Politicos, this same scam was used in Mexico back in the 80s, you would look for a 10,000 acres ranch, bribe a gov appraiser to inflate the cost and apply for loan with FIRA (Gov)
buy the ranch for a 3rd of the loan, default the loan and leave the taxpayer hanging with the ranch, Jajajaja Viva Brownsville, Tamaulipas

    1. Typical Brownsville cangrejo. Instead of praising the guy for exposing a massive rip-off, which no one else has had the balls to do in such a specific manner, you pull some cheap, petty, grade school comments. And, you want to know why Brownsville is a shit hole?

  5. So sad! thank you pat for this information. This is the type of misuse and abuse, the FBI should be on top of because it deals with taxpayers money.

  6. "Jesus! I am a saint compared to the scammers you all put into office. LOL!" I find this sentence remarkably disrespectful. First, I don't think Jesus cares and, second, these are the same people who also put you into office. And that you consider yourself to be a saint compared to the current crop of scammers doesn't say much good about you if the best you can do is to say you were not as bad as they are. Why is it in this society of ours that we are so eager to use the lowest common denominator as our standard of behavior? I mean, come on, claiming to be not as bad as the worst doesn't make you good.

  10. The "Teller did it"! Yeah right!!! I don't think there is anybody who believes that bullshit, Ahumada..you thief!!!! I have never had a teller who would fill out a deposit slip for me or even make the slightest correction to one. And certainly IF they did this as you say in your case, they would have caught that the check was not made out to you. You were a thief and still are a thief, Ahumada!!!! And you are no better than the current crop of misfits and thieves!!! Doesn't matter whether you stole a $1 or $1 million, it's all the same crime. Stop electing corrupt individuals to office people!

    1. "current crop of misfits" You must be dreaming, they are a perfect fit for Brownsville society. They are the leading members of the community. All highly paid "professionals" who have used their positions of power to rip-off the stupid ass peons for more than a century and a half. Ahumada, on the other hand, truly is a "misfit". If you want to bitch about "thieves", he would be at the very end of the line. Quit trying to hide the real corruption and fraud behind your animosity for a poor, little, medio-pendejo shrimper. By the way, the shrimper class is one of the VERY FEW actually working class group of successful people in the history of Brownsville. They really work for a living and take risks. They are far from the public payroll, lazy ass, bureaucrat as you can get. And, as for your pinche, lawyer class of coyotes that hang out at the courthouse, they really are the epitome of corruption.

    2. I don't think the person was hiding behind the real corruption and fraud. As they pointed out... their all fucking corrupt thieves, you idiot!! By the way, you're kind of all over the map on this one...SMH

    3. All over the map, could be. But, I think you mean to say "they are or they're" rather than "their all fucking...".

    4. You're right, got me on that one. Thanks for the correction, "I meant" to say...what you just said.

  12. Anonymous, your stupidity shows very blatantly and clearly. Only an idiot would believe or go along with what Carlos Garcia the former police chief was pushing, which was to indict me and send me away for 30 years for a mistake made by a Compass Bank Teller who actually did fill out the deposit slip and the night depository crew who checks missed it, but if it makes you feel better than me to say I am thief, then so be it. But, the only one here who is worse than a scum bag is you, who prefers to believe the contrary to the turth. I am glad you were not on the jury, because morons like you is what is wrong in our society. Besides, you are a coward who hides behind Anonymous and cowards like you are not taken serious. Inspite of idiots like you, I stood up for social justice that has given this city a lot that you cannot take away, which is what eats you.

    1. You're still a drunken thief, Ahumada. When a person can't even handle their own checking account properly, they certainly can't be trusted with the City's. That's why the people voted you out, just like they will do with Martinez at the next election. And yes, you are lucky I was not on that jury, you would be sitting in prison where you belong. Just because a jury let you off does not mean you are not guilty, many people who commit crimes get acquitted with sleepy jury's. You were quite the embarrassment to Brownsville along with many others. You're drunken stupor's and late night rants on facebook are evidence of that. So I guess you can go back to your bottle of booze now, but do us all a favor and stay the fuck off the roads, asshole.

  13. Anonymous, my father taught me to back up what I say and not to say things about people unless I was willing to say it to their face, which obviously you were not taught, because your genes probably comes from cowards and your kids are pobably taught the same thing to be cowardly. Maggots like you with these kind of genes makes you dangerous, becuase cowards are like criminals like Villalobos, Abel Limas, Luis Saenz, and the former Police Chief Carlos Garcia who do and say things in secret, as he did while pushing to have me convicted or destoryed politically. What they did to Emilio Hernandez was the same MO they used to try and destroy me with the help of maggots like your self who feel intimidated by me. For most people that saw through the indictment as political, because even the FEDS would not take the complaint that Carlos Garcia was pushing, then as over zealous as he was by pushing for my conviction for something that happens every day int he banking world and no one gets indicted, particularly when the teller makes the mistake. If you will recall Carlos Garcia went on TV interviews promoting my guilt, which was unusual and zelously sought to ruin me politically to please people like you, but it back fired. The jury saw through the politics for many reasons. Then the DWI arrest while I was on my way to catch a flight to Washington for the City, that too was political and he did what never had been done before, which was to release the videos of my arrest and booking. This should tell you how over zealous and the hate, a corrupt police chief was determined to ruin me and for what, because I stood up to him when his police officer arrested a taxi driver without cause or seized Letty Grazoria's dog without cause. I stood up to him and made him back down, which drove him to revenge. Now, Carlos Garcia and people like yourself are worse than the criminals, because you do more damage, just try to fathom the damage done by Villalobos, Limas, Saenz, the District Clerk's office fixing cases, and yes, our former police chief who used his power against a citizen who stood up for social justice to protect the interest of our city. Yes, these people are worse than criminals and have a double standard to what the law is, as proven by the effort to get me out of office. And who lost, you lost! I protected your best interest. Stood up for what was right and never benefitted from my position. So, maggot, you contribute nothing and are a coward. Remember that when you see yourself in the mirror and be proud that your offspring has learned from you to be cowards.

  14. P.S. If, I had done one quarter of what this mayor has done, I would have been tarred, feathered, and lynched. One quarter of the scams or just the $2.3 million dollar scam would have had the Texas Rangers on me like a tick on a dog. I never micromanaged, never gave or ordered that jobs be given to friends of mine at the city or people fired because they were not supporters. I never went on spending sprees, but sought my own funding for my projects, paid a lot of my own travel and entertainement. I was accessible and was always engaged for the betterment of the city. All of which you Anonymous cannot dispute, but only offer hate. Why? Is it because your mother perhaps shared my bed or is it because you are pathethic and have noting to offer, so you must tear those who do down?

  15. Emilio Hernandez!? I know two people who mysteriously lost their lives at the hands of that piece of shit! So if you want to associate yourself with, and are a Emilio Hernandez sympathizer, then that just confirms everything I said.

  16. You can say whatever you want about Emilio Hdz and your hate for him is clear, but your enemies are not mine and I could care less what your problems are. I make my decisions about people based on my experience with them and my experience with our former Mayor was always good. So, your beef is not mine and I am not interested to know what you think about him. My point was he was targeted to ruin him to get him out of office and they smeared him unfairly, as his and my trial proved. You think we live in a democratic society, but when it comes to politics in Brownsville, if you are not accepted, their is nothing you can do that some will like and accept you. Some of these people are evil and will go out of their way to ruin you, as they did with me. Chief Carlos Garcia made a concerted effort, along with others to get me out and it was very obvious, but that is politics. It should not be, but that is the way it is in Brownsville. My only consolation is that many who wished me wrong have had major problems, which is called KARMA. Me, I sleep good and am blessed..
