Brownsville Speaks Out on Irene Garza Murder Case

  • Frank Garcia What a shame.
  • Priscilla Rodriguez Actually, Jim, Rene Guera has been a good district attorney. The first D.A. That was in office when the murder happened didn't have enough evidence and Guerra took it to a grand jury in 2004.... They didn't find enough evidence to indict. His opponent is another version of Armando Villalobos who is spending about a million dollars of his family's money to win this office. It is shameful that the media every four years brings this case up as a way to unseat Guerra.....and that political opponents always use Irene Garza's family as political tools during the election.....she deserves justice, but every grand jury that has looked at the actual evidence and not media stories has not indicted....

  • Zeke Sauceda Is the alleged murderer still a priest, to this day?
  • Priscilla Rodriguez I don't think he is...he is in his 80s dying of terminal cancer...buy apparently the guy running for office, Ricardo Rodriguez has promised the family to prosecute the case and extradite him...or something like that...

  • Rolando Roy Rivas Its time for Rene to retire and leave with a good standing while he can. The writing is in the wall.
  • Alex Guerrero The Irene Garza case will be used until Justice is served to the pervert sex abuser priest, it is undeniable, with all the evidence found at the body he is the killer, and yes it is time for Rene to go!!!

  • Priscilla Rodriguez ^^Apparently, the grand jury felt there was enough doubt to not indict him based on the actual evidence.
  • Jim Barton Guerra manipulated the presentation of evidence. Witnesses were denied the opportunity to testify.
  • Priscilla Rodriguez Grand jury proceedings are all secret. How do you know this, Jim?
  • Jim Barton In both documentaries, Anderson Cooper's and the more recent CBS News account, the prospective witnesses were interviewed stating Guerra refused to call them, only allowing some manuscripts of statements.
  • Priscilla Rodriguez The hearsay witnesses are available, the actual eye witnesses are dead. There was the one priest from Oklahoma that was interviewed and his story kept changing. The grand jury had boxes of evidence and all the paperwork of the Texas Rangers and they still no billed. But I'm sure if the grand jury would have watched Anderson Cooper instead of reviewing the evidence, they may have true billed the case...cuz that's how we want our justice system to be right? Going solely on what the media tells us and not on what the evidence shows or doesn't show!
  • Frank Garcia Jim, wouldn't doubt if their is a relationship between some of the actors.
  • Jim Barton There were no eyewitnesses to the murder, but one witness to a confession, one witness to why Feit was transferred to a monastery and the testimony of his assigned counselor. Any or all of that testimony was relevant, but disallowed by Guerra for his very own reasons. I'm certain Guerra has spun that differently to Eric.
  • Jim Barton . . . . .it was Guerra calling or not calling witnesses before the 2002 grand jury.
  • Jim Barton all were ready and willing to testify
  • Frank Garcia I agree, the guy comes as arrogant on TV. The documentaries were overwhelming.
  • Jim Barton Exactly Frank. An objective prosecutor would not take the case so personally, so as to tell the victim's family that an indictment will come "when pigs fly." That's beyond arrogant, insensitve, boorish.
  • Frank Garcia I hope they vote him out.
  • Teresa Saldivar I did not like his statement where he say's " a priest or clergy cannot testify"...I disagree. As seen in the past twenty years with the child molestation cases clergy can be compelled by the court to testify. It is like Guerra refuses to reopen the case for two reasons, close ties to the church or it's too much work because the case is so old. Both are unacceptable when it comes to murder. Murder has no time limits.
  • Priscilla Rodriguez How do you know it was disallowed? Truth is we don't know what evidence was or wasn't presented. Hearsay remains Hearsay, and a lot of that is just inadmissible in a trial. I agree there are real issues an opponent can bring up if they wanted to go after Rene Guerra....he isn't very well spoken and he does come across as arrogant and certainly I think there were some insensitivity issues with the family. I understand people want change, but look what that got Cameron County when they ousted Yolanda de Leon.
  • Frank Garcia Agree with Teresa, murder is murder. But then Cameron like Hidalgo are rotten to the core.
  • Jim Barton Even church officials admitted, that in 1960, the reputation of the religious organization was more important than the rights of the victim or justice for the family. Seemingly, local(Hidalgo County) law enforcement cooperated back then.

  • Jim Barton If a new Hidalgo DA is elected, which I doubt, the case may go to trial despite one of the witnesses' death in 2005. It would be an historic case on several levels.

  • Alex Guerrero This a typical case of the religion power to cover their crimes as they did and still do cover the sexual abuse by perverts priests to minors, they pay millionaire settlements but so far none of this perverst has served prison time!!!

  • Teresa Saldivar We have new was of determining what happened that did not exist fifty years ago...DNA, etc. To imply it is futile is wrong of the D.A.

  1. Sheriff Omar Lucio refused to arrest Joey de la Garza (Aurora's son) after he stole hundreds of thousands of dollars from a local non-profit Hospice.....from people dying. Sheriff Lucio made himself a "pawn" to Aurora and then she got Judge "Disable" Limas to give "Baby" Joey a "get out of jail free card".....with Aurora manipulating the court assignments and with the help of DA Villlalobos. All should be in jail.....and yet you want to worry about Rene Guerra. Time Cameron County voters wake up and clean their own house.

    1. The demarcation between Cameron and Hidalgo counties is a simply a dotted line beyond which free speech easily extends

  4. Anything is possible in Hidalgo and Cameron County. |Check convicted former District Attorney Armando Villalobos, He thought he was the MAN. Now he sits in a holding Prison in Fort Bend shitting bricks. Afraid of giving up big names in return for his family's welfare. He along with corrupt judges, lawyers and the manipulating of the district clerk office , allowed convicted rapist, murders, and drug dealers to rule Cameron county. Even had drug dealers such as Justin Ramos work in his office and was backing him up for City commissioner. His best friend was Oscar de la Fuente. He allowed a doctor from the Valley Baptist Hospital that "murdered" a patient. The doctor was arrested, indicted, (10-CR-150-B). The B after number stands for Civil. There is a civil lawsuit 2010-CPC-101-B filed in court at law # 2 in April 5,2010 by no other than so call attorney Juan Angel Guerra. (I wonder if Juan Angel Guerra and Rene Guerra are related). But , non the less what does it matter if person get indicted the only people that got satisfaction was Armando Villalobos and Juan Angel Guerra . Check it out all of his court sanctions related to the so called indictments of Dick Channey, Alberto Gonzalez, Lucio and so forth all went away. He even married the convicted Sherriff Conrado Contu's ex-wife. All the glory from the killing of a patient. This is my opinion.
