Taxpayers, Your Map of Brownsville Resacas is Back on the Wall After Three Weeks

Brownsville Downtown Revitalization
Information Office(the map of city

resacas is on the right)
A friend, who used to live in Brownsville, took us to lunch yesterday at a downtown restaurant.

"Jim, I read your blog, although I don't always agree with what you write," the visitor said. "Take Mayor Martinez, for example.  I know you say he does things without consulting the City Commission, but that's the only way you can get things done in this city, on the sneak.  The commissioners are dumbasses."

I honestly didn't want to waste the conversation on local politics with someone we hadn't seen in two years, but still replied:  "The mayor has done nothing for Brownsville, only for himself and his cronies. He's not shared a vision with the taxpayers, not only because he doesn't have one, but because he does not believe in democracy."

The conversation drifted to our grandchildren, our friend's new city and where we might meet again before his departure.

On the way back to our truck, Nena took the picture above of the Brownsville Downtown Revitalization Information Office at the corner of Washington and E. 11th Street, that was originally intended to be Mayor Martinez' downtown office.  The picture shows that the map of Brownsville resacas has, after three weeks of laying on the floor, found its way back on the wall.  The office
Tony Martinez just HAD to have has been leased by the city since October 8, 2013, but used perhaps once.  On one of the window sills is a printout from a January 16, 2014 meeting, "Brownville in Motion."

Mayor Tony Martinez
The taxpayer money Martinez wasted on this office was never approved by the City Commission. Instead, the mayor was secretly dipping into the AEP Texas settlement fund of $3,060,000 for this office and other pet projects.  Only after Commissioners John Villarreal and Debbie Portillo placed an item on a meeting agenda to reign in Tony's spending, did the mayor's spendthrift ways halt momentarily.

You're the typical RACIST democrat to make such a statement.

  3. I am amazed at these comments....indicating that citizens "don't care" that Tony Martinez is wasting money. It just goes to show that unless citizens see a loss in their entitlement checks, or have to actually pay taxes....they don't give a shit what the city or county leaders do. Most Brownsville citizens don't pay taxes, so they don't care how the government is run....as long as their benefits are not reduced or delayed.
This is the reason that Brownsville continues to swirl down the figurative toilet.....its the citizens stupid. While other cities in the RGV grow and progress....Brownsville continues its downward swirl....why, because it's citizens don't care. They want everything but do not want to give up anything. Brownsville surely is a third world city.
