The Quandary of the Cameron County District Attorney Race~Saenz or Mattingly?

Armando Villalobos
Another community could have absorbed the hit of a young, arrogant, hispanic lawyer becoming the district attorney and then abusing his office, but not the most impoverished county in the United States.  With political corruption beyond rampant, easily available and cheap drugs, Mexican nationals looking to notary publics for guidance, money being laundered every which way, the last thing Cameron County needed was a DA on the take.  Armando Villalobos didn't just betray his wife, his family, his community, he took a dump on a county legal/judicial system already on life support.  We do not gloat that our harsh words of January 4th proved true:
"If county officials received merit pay, District Attorney Armando Villalobos would owe several years of salary to Cameron County. He should also pay back the cost of office utilities that kept him climaticly comfortable, the costs associated with transporting him from home to office and back, the fees associated with keeping him electronically connected to the his constituents and the information highway. I do not begrudge his staff their pay as they simply must follow orders, although, if whispers are correct, Mando owes the county for the large segment of their workweeks devoted to his congressional campaign.
Villalobos as district attorney is as effective as a lifeguard with a water phobia. As we stated a few days ago: "We pay a district attorney handsomely in Cameron County to fight corruption, but like the cowardly lion in the Wizard of Oz, Armando Villalobos never had the courage. He deferred, stepped over, ignored the rampant political corruption in the county so as not to antagonize any segment of political support as he used the district attorney's office to launch his campaign for yet higher office."
If you think I'm overstating this, please consider the courage it takes for a citizen to come forward to report a crime, whether it be an act of political corruption, an assault, a robbery or some sort of white collar crime. They may be putting themselves in harm's way, risking retaliation, possibly including bodily injury or even death. Then consider the countless hours and expense of law enforcement in investigating, gathering evidence, apprehending, etc. All of this is for absolute naught if the district attorney fails to prosecute. Not to mention that the climate created by a do-nothing DA is one of emboldening political and other criminals to continue their corruption. Do you think County Commissioner Ernie Hernandez is the least bit worried about Villalobos proceeding with a case against him in the orchestrated, dishonest hiring of his felonious brother-in-law or that Carlos Quintanilla is the least bit worried about a perjury charge for false testimony in a deposition or two?
Villalobos has to be living in an absolute vacuum to have the unmitigated gall to run for higher office after exhibiting total failure in his current one. Armando Villalobos for Congress? That's an absolute joke!"

Luis Saenz Initially Going Cheezmeh
With Villalobos run for Congress and subsequent indictment, the door was open for new candidates for district attorney.  Luis Saenz, a former DA, initially reached out to Brownsville Cheezmeh for support, joining forces  for a chicken plate giveaway and Christmas shindig.  Why Saenz tired of Cheezmeh is not publicly known, but soon his Democratic opponent Carlos Masso started paying for Cheezmeh support as supported by the financial report of their infamous P.A.C., Bringing Brownsville Change.

In the primaries Saenz overcame the huge politiquera effort by the Carlos Masso, Abelardo Gomez and Erin H. Garcia camps because his race was countywide.  Masso won Brownsville precincts controlled by politiqueras while Saenz overcame that with larger margins in the rest of Cameron County including SPI.  At this point Saenz was unbeatable, facing only Republican opponent Chuck Mattingly in the general election.  Saenz could easily become the next DA without using politiqueras or association with the obviously corrupt influences of the party.

"No one wins unless I say so!"  Herminia Becerra
Instead of taking the high road, Saenz participated in a Democratic rally featuring prominent politiqueras and Democratic politicos known for their corruption.  Carlos Masso, who had just attempted to steal the election from Saenz by using politiqueras and election fraud, now was embraced by Saenz who publicly accepted his endorsement.  Herminia Becerra, the "Queen of the Politiqueras" walked into the Amigoland Event Center sporting a Luis V. Saenz t-shirt.

As one politico told me later:   "Jim, Herminia doesn't wear anyone's shirt unless they pay her. Simple as that.  Saenz sold out."

Saenz and Masso
Someone with sensitivity to public perception simply would not have participated in an event with the notoriously corrupt Gilberto Hinojosa, politiqueras like Herminia Becerra and Margarita Ozuna, Ernie, Norma and Erin Hernandez, but Saenz was solidifying his base, while letting Brownsville voters know that he is part of what is wrong with local politics, not part of the solution.

Visiting with one of Saenz operatives, I had learned this even before the October 20th event.  I asked the Saenz rep:  "Will Saenz, if elected, prosecute incidents of voter fraud that have been documented preparing for two voter fraud trials?"
I asked the operative to convey that question to Saenz, but he already knew the answer.  "Luis is smarter than that.  He will not deal with the small infractions but go after the head of the snake."  I assumed he meant Ernie Hernandez, but it was not reassuring that the rep felt Saenz would not prosecute voter fraud.

Since then, we've seen Saenz openly cavorting with the Hernandezes, Gilberto Hinojosa, Carlos Masso and their politiqueras.  It is obvious he is part of the status quo and that is totally unacceptable.  Cameron County needs better.
Chuck Mattingly
So, what about Chuck Mattingly?  He has prosecuted several notorious local cases successfully including child murder/decapitater John Allen Rubio.  One huge question remains about the mishandling of bail for murderer Amit Livingston, who was allowed to go free for 60 days to "get his affairs in order." He skipped town and has never been found.  While we understand it was Judge Limas' call and, no doubt, the corrupt DA Villalobos was involved in the miscarriage, Mattingly's silence is very troubling.  If you can get past that, Mattingly may be your candidate.  Forget Mattingly's suspension without pay by the Villalobos office and rumblings about Mattingly being "difficult to work with."  Anything coming from the Villalobos office has zero credibility.  We don't trust corrupt officeholders anymore than we trust Herminia Becerra.

  1. Most intriguing to me is the death of his Asst. D.A. Iniquez, the young man who was found dead inside his SUV in Matamoros. The story just smells, and this was before the outing of Judge Abel Limas as a corrupt, bribe-happy judge. Could it be that Iniquez knew of the under-the-table shenanigans? A young lawyer killing himself, as was believed to be the case at the time, just doesn't square with what it takes to become one. Long hours of study and a Bar Exam to take and worry about. A young wife and daughter depending on him for their future. Just doesn't make sense that such a young man who kill himself. I believe Villalobos early-on said something about Iniquez being bogged down by law school loans and depression. Perhaps there is much more to his unexpected death than has been let-on...

    1. Such as being wrong about the death of Jose Angel Gutierrz, do you even do research before posting such nonsense? lawyers are among the highest professionals who off themselves - it may very well be because of corruption and their inability to deal with it - but lawyers off themselves in records numbers - doctors work even harder for their education and they are number 1

    2. For your information, it was postured as a possibility. Perhaps that was lost on you because of your rabid opposition to everything Good & Human. Someone needs to check on you three/four times a day. You're dangerous in a sort of clinical way. I'm not surprised at your attack, as you have spent a lifetime doing it, even though you once posted a story on your Blog that my blog was "a breath of fresh air." The comment about La Raza Unida's Jose Angel Gutierrez also was posited as a metaphor for what ails today's Valley Hispanic Democrats. Many of them simply have no idea where the party came from, or where it's been. Gutierrez has said as much, but how would you know? Sitting and whining at the VA clinic has stolen years from you, lad. As for the late Mr. Iniquez being a lawyer and your silliness about lawyers being atop the list of suicide folks, well, I won't quibble with an unemployed, disabled veteran out of my sense of civility. Who is wont to off themselves more than others was hardly the point. My note on young Iniquez went to his family and to the manner in which his death was handled at the D.A.'s office. It strikes me that a father will not kill himself knowing his daughter is just a kid. But, then, what do you know about biological fatherhood? It pains me to address you, as well you know. No one in Brownsville slimes better than you, Robertito. And, worst of all, you mangle the language when you do it, which hurts my eyes terribly on another level. I suggest a visit to the nearest pharmacy, and especially to the shelf where they stock Kaopectate. You seem to forever be in need of it. Projectiled diarrhea thrown out as Blog comments is apparently part of your post-disbarment sentence. But do spare me. I long-ago wrote you off as a lifeless crackpot doomed to self-hate, the quintessential Skin & Seven Holes. You're a sad figure in town. One would think that you'd have gotten it by now...

    3. I agree with DP-M. BOBBY WEIGHTLESS-CEREBRUM is generally hate in Brownsville. He promises to kill his lousy blog and announces it as if it's something worthwhile and then he never leaves. This "Boobie" must be trying to take on some shine by conversing with DP-M. I would ask DP-M to ignore his fat ass. And he is right about BW-C bitching and moaning about the VA. He should be glad they treat him. What was he in the military, a latrine cleaner? His looks are what hurts my eyes. Vato panson needs to exercise!

    4. @ /DP-M

This clown is beneath you. Don't waste your time. Bobby "not qualified to wipe asses" WC(to steal some of his own vernacular) is the quintessential hater, as today's youth like to say. A self anointed know it all that consistently takes his football and his personal cheer leading squad home if he can't play quarterback.

    6. Bobby, that is SOOOOOOOOO you. Go away!

    7. The insults are not mindless, Boobster. In your case, they are dead-on. And how do you spell refuge? Stay in your hole. Every time you come out and post crap you confirm what we all believe - that you must be a pendejo!!!

    8. "mindless insults" ??......"not qualified to wipe asses" Compare and contrast o wise one. Or is it just another example of how you constantly hold others to a standard you cannot hold yourself to?

  2. Nothing will change if Luis Saenz is elected....he has proven that he is a part of the corruption of the Democratic Party of Cameron County. He is just another lawyer who seeks public office because he can't make a living on his own...despite his "education". My vote will go for Chuck Mattingly....for change and to give the Democratic Party a challenge. Villalobos...a Democrat. Judge "Disable" Limas....a Democrat. Ex-Sheriff Conrado Cantu.....a Democrat. Gilbert Hinojosa....a Democrat. Ernie Hernandes, Sofia Benavides and Dan Sanchez......more selfish and corrupt Democrats. Time for change. Its Chuck Mattingly for me.

  3. The idiot Bobby W-C must be needing some schlong love. Too bad, Boobie. DP-M hangs with a better class of people and his appetite for women is well-known. Isn't DP-M still the Most Interesting Man in Brownsville? Mchale wrote that the other day, Boobster. LOL!!!

    1. DP-M wasn't writing about lawyers and suicide. Bobby the clown again shows his stupidity. One, he can't read and understand what he is reading and (two) he makes the mistake of attacking a person known as a good guy and smart. Hey, Booby, get a job, vato flojo!!! I pay for the VA clinic you abuse.

    2. Jake? YOU ARE NOT JAKE! I know Jake/Ralph/ICE man, and you are not Jake. It is very well known that JAKE hates DPM since he was banned by him from his blog.

  4. Bobby should leave town and move to Tibet (take the dog, Montoya, and McHale). This town is not big enough for Bobby and DP-M. Jake said it well, "DP-M is the Most Interesting Man in Brownsville."

  5. I also wonder about this Asst DA. Doesn't make any sense that he would go to Matamoros to kill himself. Why take a chance on not having your body found if you're going to kill yourself? Very suspicious indeed! The people and places our DA would go and surround himself with make you question this even more. He would go to Jr's restaurant, the same place Tony "Tormenta" and Mario "gordo would frequent. Makes you wonder!
