Potential Unacceptable Candidates for Cameron County Election Administrator

From the editor:  The new election administrator inherits a staff of eight to manage several elections a year,  order elections supplies, promote voter registration and voting and preserve the sanctity of the process.  Below are a few names that may or may not be considered, but in my opinion have certain flaws that make them unacceptable for this critical county appointment, a sort of preemptive strike to call attention to the unsuitability of certain possible candidates:

Norma Carrillo
Norma Carrillo, the current administrative assistant to Roger Ortiz, dealt with us graciously during a visit to the office while Ortiz was out.  She answered questions about the election code and the handling of mail-in votes.  When we showed her a printout of Herminia Becerra's neighborhood including Western Blvd., where nearly 100% of the voters in 2010 utilized mail-in ballots, she said: "They(The Hernandezes) will probably use vans this time around to bring in voters from the nursing homes."

This showed us that Ms. Carrillo is aware of the methods used by the corrupt element in county elections.  Still, I'm not certain Carrillo is the kind of dynamic administrator that could reach out to the community with presentations presenting the Election Code requirements, deal with voter fraud and the heavyhandedness of elected officials.

Jared Hockema
Jared Hockema, a bright young man, who served as the assistant to the Cameron County Democratic Chair understands the mechanics of elections.  His internship under Gilberto Hinojosa is certainly a negative.  Decisions made while the de facto county chair may illustrate his unsuitability for the job of Election Administrator.  Foolishly, he appointed Linda Castro Dragustinovis of Brownsville Cheezmeh, an organization evidently receiving political contributions from Erin H. Garcia and Carlos Masso through its P.A.C. Bringing Brownsville Change, whose address is the same as Linda's former notary public office.  While very young, Hockema has obvious ties to the old corruption, is simply too partisan, just what we don't need in a new election administrator.

Carlos Masso
Carlos Masso is currently out of a job, discounting his law practice, such as it is.  In a political payback scheme Ernie Hernandez tried to orchestrate the creation of a new justice of the peace position for Masso, allegedly to pay him back for financing the money-drained Erin H. Garcia JP campaign by helping pay for the politiqueras and van drivers utilized collectively by the Masso, Gomez and Garcia campaigns.

Masso is exactly what we DON'T need as election administrator with ties, not only to the Hernandezes, but allegedly with the infamous Escobedo brothers.

Sylvia Garza-Perez

Although just elected Cameron County Democratic Chair, would Ms. Garza-Perez accept the job of Election Administrator?  The thought borders on nightmarish.  The notoriously aggressive, ill-mannered Garza-Perez is the niece of politiquera Herminia Becerra and is not fit for her current job, let alone that of Election Administrator.

Not to overstate the point, but she also has close ties to the Hernandez machine.

  1. Isn't it a civil service position that requires application and testing?

  2. I propose Mary Helen Flores from CAVA, she would be every corrupt elected official's nightmare. I think that is what we need, but Cascos, Ernie, Aurora, etc. Would never allow it.

    1. you are 100% wright, but first we need to bring the feds, texas rangers etc, to clean the house starting with the new elected officials, and the ones you mentionedor lets ask santa claus for help, because in this town there is a lot of corruption and nobody is doing nothing.

    2. Mary Helen Flores is too emotional.

    3. I would challenge the description of emotional. She is most certainly ambitious and passionate about correcting the fraud in Cameron County Voting processes.

    5. She is more than well qualified to do this job and would provide integrity and transparency to this office.

  3. It is a position that is political and while applications may be requested, in the end it is decided by the Democratic Party.....the selection committee has a Democratic Party majority. Years ago, Ed Stapleton's secretary (some say more than a secretary) got the job with no experience and little education....."job given" to her by the party as a favor. None of the above can be counted out....all are owed favors by the Democrats. None of them would change the election problems and fraud that exists now.

    2. Nov 7 5:59 AM if you mean "Cata" win .....disgusts me...." you are not alone. I cannot believe that the voters in Brownsville put her back in power after all the damage she has done. Yup, Clupper, you should have dropped out; instead, you cost us dearly. Stay on the porch and figure out something to do besides trying to play in the political ring. In Cameron County, you don't have a chance.

    3. Brownsville gets precisely the leadership it deserves. It's elected officials reflect the constituency perfectly. This is not an isolated event. Ahumada(twice), Atkinson, Presas-Garcia(twice !), the fake doctor Escobedo, Hernandez(how many times?), de la Garza and on and on...... Brownsville will never be anything more than a shit town with an uneducated, dependent population getting exploited every day of the week.

  5. If Mitt had David Plouffe and David Axerod, he would have been president today. But he had a bunch of fools that were not steady and lacked self-efficacy and a clear vision for the candidate. I am no strategist but I know when they got off message in the last couple of days to jump on Obama "revenge" statement it showed shallowness and lack confidence in their message. The president was steadfast in his closing statement and it was positive. He did not mention his opponent in his closing speech. He contrasted the policies in a summary statement. Mitt was still fishing through the president's speeches for errors on which to capitalize; yet he refused to take questions from the press or do interviews. You cannot insulate your candidate 3 weeks before a major election when nearly 47% of the voters, who do not care too much for politics, are just tuning in to see who is running. That was so cowardice and ignorant of Mitts strategists.

  7. need an election administrator who has no ties or connections to anybody. Believe me everybody will be applying for this position by the end of the year. Yes, Brownsville Politics stinks and sucks at this time. Next year we have the city elections next spring. In two years we have the midterm elections and the Republicans will be ready more than ever along with the Tea party.

    1. Dig deeper. Consider as many candidates as possible. Throwing out names won't do it. That's been the problem.

    2. Agreed. Set the bar higher than people with arrest record for drugs, anger management issues.

    3. Who does she works for?????

  9. That is precisely the problem! There is no legitimate hiring process!! Names get thrown out there, and sure enough, one of them gets in! Vicious cycle!!!!

  10. Hey Jim, do you know who are a worthless piece of shit? Three women! Let me give you a little hint. One has been married 3 different times and still goes around flirting with men trying to have a fling. The other lost custody of her son for getting caught in bed with her husband's best friend. The last got in a fight with a counselor at one of our high school because her husband was cheating with her, then after she left BISD she got fired from a private school for mismanaging the school and she also got fired from a school district up the valley. Any guesses on who these three women are? Well I am sure you know they presently serve your children at your great school district. What possible positive difference can they make in our child's life when they have so much turmoil in their own private life?
