Carlos Quintanilla Eagerly Awaits BISD Vote Canvass, Possible Recount

Carlos Quintanilla
While his blog, CareBrownsville, has been shut down, his visibility in Brownsville almost zero, make no mistake.  Carlos Quintanilla eyes the BISD elections just as a vulture eyes its prey.  The Dallas con artist, who sells himself as an advocate for Hispanic rights with his group Accion America, has done some of his best work for benefactor Ted Parker, the former majority owner of Healthsmart, by manipulating BISD elections so that trustees would be elected who would drop the $14,300,000 lawsuit by BISD for overcharges.

Quintanilla with Cata Presas-Garcia
Parker and Quintanilla are still somewhat anxious to retain a majority of BISD trustees who will oppose the reinstatement of the lawsuit.  With the seeming re-election of Cata Presas-Garcia, the tandem seems to be in good shape, but an additional trustee in their corner would strengthen their position.  While I've been told that Linda Gill-Martinez is that extra majority-supportive vote, I've not seen any actual evidence linking her to Quintanilla.  She has been faithfully supported by Erasmo Dragustinovis, the guru of the Brownsville Cheezmeh cult, whatever that support is worth.

We may have to wait as long as two weeks for final results.  Election Administrator Roger Ortiz' ineptitude never makes things easy.

  1. Mr Barton, she's also being $$uported by the "head-hanchos" of the Niños Headstart, an organization funded by the state. I know because I work there, and so does her sister and brother inlaw.
We were strongly sugested to vote for her, if we wanted to keep our jobs "safe"

That should read "honchos," not "hanchos."

  2. This lady is NOT capable of standing up to Caty, or her cronies. She has been intimidated by some of their friends in the past, and more than likely they would do it again. Linda Don't let them intimidate you. Do what's right!!

You don't need to write "in the past," because "she has been intimidated" is in the past tense.

    2. Rey,
Grammar Nazis are not appreciated or respected. If you're able to write, then write. No one liked little smart asses in grade school and they don't like them now.

    3. I agree with Mr. Guevara-Vasquez. Language in this town is atrocious. That he takes the time to correct these people should be commended, not criticized. Do you push bad language on this Blog, Jim? It's a teaching moment, as any teacher will tell you.

    4. Yes, I'm taking advantage of the teaching moment to convey to you and Rey that constantly correcting grammar is boorish and juvenile. While bad language may not be pushed on this blog, neither is annoying, grade-schoolish behavior. No skilled teacher would tell a student they were utilizing a "teaching moment." Is it time for recess yet?

    5. I know right, c'mon, get a friggin' life. Oh , I used to many commas or not enough or whatever, who friggin' cares? Nobody! If the point is understood, than that is all that matters. This is a blog, not a formal English composition class. Mr. Rey Guevara, go apply with BISD or something productive instead of CONSTANTLY criticizing and correcting everyone's bad grammar.

    6. Gud,
One can empathize with Rey and others who have a need to show grammatical superiority. I admit to similar conduct earlier in life. When one has deficiencies in other areas of life, they may try to compensate by demonstrating they do know something. It can be tolerated for a bit, but gets bothersome, annoying when it becomes a near obsession. No one has been appointed grammar master in life.

    7. I agree with Jim, the constant correction is rather annoying . Did you notice I wrote "to many" instead of "too many"? The comments in this and other blogs are unedited which means they will contain grammatical errors of all sorts. If people feel the need to point out someone's "bad English", then at the very least, they could add to the discussion line of the post before dropping their grammar bomb corrections and leaving.

  6. Jim, thank you for calling out that boring grammar simpleton. Please block him. People who resort to correcting grammar don't have anything to offer in an adult debate so they revert to childish behavior. BORING TROLLS!!!!!!!! As for Quintanilla;I do believe que tiene vela en este intiero(sp).

  8. I'm late getting into this "proper grammar" online symposium, but here goes my take: Language does more than simply convey a thought. Communication, yes, is all about making the other person(s) understand what you're saying, and, yes, sometimes street lingo is the best, i.e. inside economic border cantinas. Yet it, too, goes to education. An adult who cannot grasp why this is important is not being realistic. Place a candidate on any debate panel and see him/her mangle the language and what do you have: an irate audience, an audience unable/unwilling to support such a person. Why? Simple. Many of us do judge you by your use of vocabulary, both spoken and written. I've heard enough "orales" and "vatos" and "chingaos" to fill two lifetimes. Does it bother me? Of course. But I do make allowances in some settings. And perhaps that is what we have here on the Blog - people wishing merely to type themselves silly, oblivious to the idea that others will have to "read" their words. There is a reason why you have The New Yorker and The NY Times. Fans of both publications would not long bother with, say, The Brownsville Herald. So, march onward with your preference, lads. It's just your reputation moving down the street. I ask: Would you be so quick to mangle the language if you had to affix your name - and not an Anonymous - to your contribution? I would say, "No." Blogs are to be read, and the more you read the better writer you will become...

  9. Can we go back to why we are really here, which is the anxiety of Quintaniila.
Remember, this guy works for Ted Parker, who is co-owner of Healthsmart, and if a new majority is formed they would re file the lawsuit, and the district would get 8-10 million dollars at NO COST. Caty, Luci, and Christina are blocking this. Enrique is having some second thoughts

  10. He ia really anxious, and his worse nightmare, which is you, and the lady Rey, are not showing any signs of keeping quieted. Jesus!!!
Jim, if you only knew how much we owe you two!!
    Thanks,

  11. This guy knows his criminal enterprise will continue by having Catalina back on the board, now if he gets Gill-Martinez in, he re-affirms his stance on the Healthsmart lawsuit, because Gill is part of Catalina.
