Crazy Former Lawyer |
Anyone see the irony in a failed, former practitioner within the legal system attempting to coach others, who somehow managed to retain their legal licenses, on the nuances of negotiating within that system?
Isn't that like Ernie Hernandez, Jr. teaching ethics or Donald Trump giving us pointers on hairstyling?
Did you read the Brownsville Herald story by Steve Clark about food trailers proliferating in Austin, but prevented by huge regulatory code from operating in Brownsville? It seems odd that in the poorest county in the U.S. entrepreneurship would be so severely stifled.
Mayor Tony Martinez was quoted in the article:
“We have so many different issues at the city that probably need addressing, such as public works and city maintenance and things of that nature,” said Martinez, who owns Lola’s restaurant on Palm Boulevard. “I would not put food trailers at the top of my list right now.”
Evidently, Walter Underwood, the former owner of Philly's Americana in Brownsville, stopped trying to fight bureaucracy and regulation in our city and took his food trailer to Austin, a city that has dozens of such trailers offering all kinds of unique and sometimes gourmet items.
"Dick Teresi writes in the WSJ that becoming an organ donor seems like a noble act, but what doctors won't tell you is that checking yourself off as an organ donor when you renew your driver's license means you are giving up your right to informed consent, and that you may suffer for it, especially if you happen to become a victim of head trauma.

When Are You Actually Dead?
Hugh Pickens writes:
Even though they comprise only 1% of deaths, victims of head trauma are the most likely organ donors. Patients who can be ruled brain dead usually have good organs, while organs from people who die from heart failure, circulation, or breathing deteriorate quickly."
The London Olympics 2012
Synchronized swimming |
Anyone else had enough of synchronized swimming and water polo? Add synchonized diving and badminton to weird additions to the Olympic format.
The two announcers paid to try to keep these events interesting have their hands full.

What a don't understand here is why allow the roach coachs to travel all around town selling thier greasy food to the illegal construction help but yet a food trailer gets the shaft. Those food trailers are all over the country and indeed do serve up some of the most tasty gourmet food one would find in fine dining places. Could this be because an Anglo had the idea here, and not the Mexicans, or was it because these food trailers would put a dent in the taco businsees that you see at every corner of the intersections...sounds like brown politics again. Yet this mayor has his setup in this business in the Austin area (Rainy street) and is for it but not here in Brownsvile...go figure! It's no wonder this town is so full of shit.
ReplyDeleteAny mobile food here would not likely be "unique" or "gourmet"....probably just more tacos. It is a pithy issue and one obviously not of concern to most citizens. We see entreprenuership all around us....raspa stands, helotes vans, and tacos, tacos, tacos. I agree with Tony Martinez, Brownsville has more problems and this issue is very, very low in priority.
ReplyDeleteYour assumption about the food quality produced by a food trailer is irrelevant as is your assumption about the concerns of "most" citizens. If someone has the means to fund a legitimate enterprise that's available all over the country, Brownsville's bureaucrats should have the skill set and wherewithal regulate it. The city bureaucracy is simply mentally lazy and unimaginative, not unlike Tony Martinez.

Food trucks do not "roll" across Austin; they are neatly parked in various lots, where they take the appearance of carnival food stands. Never heard of them referred to as food trailers.
DeleteRight on Jimmy Boy...right on!

Marranillo was/is D UTB Bruja, WE WILL BE WORSE...
DeleteHell, synchronized swimming should be favorite here along the Rio Grande...where we can watch the illegals in their efforts in the river. Or the synchronized swimming efforts of drug runners who ditch their load in the river and swim their way back to Mexico. The expanded coverage of the olympics clearly presents the wide range of sports/activities open to young and old....positive activities.
ReplyDeleteAnyone see the irony in why this community thrives on culture like "Dumb and Dumber"...the movie. It is because it is a reflection on the ignorance of the community. Serious social issues are incoherent to most, so the community hunkers down in stupidity.
