The Brownsville Herald, 6/9/12:
"There is, for example, the recording played Friday in federal court of a conversation in 2008 between Limas and State Rep. Rene Oliveira.
Oliveira’s law firm had neglected to name an expert witness in a civil lawsuit before Limas’ court, and the case was set for trial. The lawsuit involved the Wilbur-Ellis Co., a client of Oliveira’s firm.
As heard in court, Oliveira told Limas that his firm was in a bind, that he was caught with his “pants down” to his knees.
“Man, I need I need a big, big favor,” Oliveira told Limas.
“We f----d up on a case,” Oliveira told Limas, who served as judge of the 404th district from 2001 through the end of 2008.
“We have to try (the case), but I need to buy some more time,” Oliveira said, noting that the firm stood to lose the client.
Oliveira said that attorney Randall Crane, who represented the opposing party, had him “by the b---s.”
Oliveira indicated in the conversation that an associate would attend the hearing and seek more time, and that Crane was going to go “ballistic.”
Oliveira asked Limas to “pretend” not to know. Before indicating to Oliveira that things would work out, Limas told Oliveira that Crane was trying to have attorney Ray R. Marchan sanctioned and that he does not sanction attorneys."

This would be funny, except that the individuals involved are Mexicans. So there goes the surprise. Rene Oliveira has been a taker all his life, in politics and apparently in his law practice. the tone of the article appears to indicate that Oliveira felt a certain comfort in seeking Limas' help. Poor Limas never had a chance in life, or so would indicate the bribery allegations lodged against him. His goose is likely cooked. Oliveira, meanwhile, should do the honorable thing and resign from public service. But, then, he's the poster boy for Mexicans in the Valley. We're not laughing on this side of town. Rene Oliveira has worn out his welcome.

Rene is a doofus in most any community except Brownsville. He is not smart, clever or articulate. He is an underachiever, a "C" student anywhere but Brownsville. But here, he is a name, an hispanic name, that voters will remember and darken with a pencil. He has a quarter century of non-performance. No one cares that he has sold his soul to Linebarger. No one cares that he is an ineffectual lawyer, at best. No one cares that he is a dumbass.

Yup. But this information would have done wonders toward cleaning up our district had it been released a week before early voting, as Villalobos indictment was. Is it too late to put a write in on the ballot? What are the requisites for a recall?
DeleteEven if this news was available before the election, the Dumbokrats would have re-elected Rene. It is a shame, but in Brownsville, we don't just accept corruption....our voters demand it. Rene is a slug and everyone knows it....yet he will go back to Austin next year to serve as our rep. And we wonder why the Valley is backward.....because officials like Rene sell their votes to out of towners and out of state lobby groups.
ReplyDeletewrite in candidate must register with the county election administrator 67 days before the general election, thats all that is needed, as for a recall no one will want to do it unless there is a group who will undertake such a task, you will need to get 10 percent signatures of voters turnout to do a recall petition which will come out to 800 to 900 signatures mas o menos based on the total numbers of voters in the dist 37 race
ReplyDeletehey, you're giving Mexicans a bad name... These guys aren't Mexican..they are born and bread in the United States! they may be of Mexican heritage.. but that is not their nationality..
ReplyDeleteIsn't he an alcoholic????
ReplyDeleteYet, he keeps getting re-elected??? What good does airing these bozo's laundry if they don't get prosecuted and when they do they get a slap on the wrist! Heck, a "mojadito" gets more time than these bozos! It's is truly a joke.
