Joe Rivera Pays Back Ernie, More SpaceX Psychology, Depressing Cheezmeh Watch Party

Perhaps it was payback for Ernie having his back on the $2,500 portrait fiasco, but according to Juan Montoya's  El Rrun Rrun blog County Clerk Joe Rivera allowed his administrative assistant Letty Perez, an Erin Hernandez supporter, to  introduce the  Justice of the Peace candidate to the County Clerk's staff.

If my vote was being cultivated in that inappropriate way on county time, no less, I might be inclined to vote the other way.

This might also be an indication that Rivera's department is overstaffed, with all that time to practice politics while being paid by the taxpayers.

Actually, Mean Mister Brownsville heard more than one report about staffs being asked/forced to work on the campaign of their boss.  Someone close to the Armando Villalobos' staff mentioned that several employees were working as many as 32 hours a week on campaign matters.  That's no surprise at all, since Villalobos has made several appearances at the Ray Marchan trial, taking copious notes, especially when his name comes up in the bribery scheme.  Is that on the county dime as well?

Speaking of staffs, Judge Elia Cornejo-Lopez seems to have lost hers during the campaign.  One of her staffers complained to me:  "She makes us work long hours on her campaign.  If anyone complains, she says "You're lucky I gave you a job!"  Someone else complained about my criticism of Lopez on MMB:  "Elia Cornejo-Lopez crooked?  She's a bitch, but I only think Limas is throwing shit at her cause he lost the election."  I have heard more detail about Lopez, but according to an informant, that information has been turned over to the F.B.I.  Patience, people, patience!

Just to confirm a rumor:  If anyone has been approached by phone by a City Commissioner asking for you to vote for Erin H. Garcia, please email or inbox me with your experience.

Brownsville Cheezmeh held their campaign watch party at the fantastic downtown coffee shop/live music venue El Hueso de Frailebut it was not an altogether happy time for the candidates of the former watchdog group turned politiquera.  Their two TSC candidates both lost, while their JP candidate finished second.  Jared Hockema, candidate for County Chair, that campaign finance records indicate paid Cheezmeh $840 for advertising, also lost.   Only Carlos Masso, the District Attorney candidate tainted by links to the $21,000,000 "Bridge to Nowhere" and the unscrupulous Escobedo brothers, actually led in round one.

Carlos Masso, along with Erin H. Garcia may be the financial engine keeping the Cheezmeh train sputtering along.   In recent group gatherings the familiar "Got Cheezmeh?" shirts have become scarce.  The freshly printed "Got CheezMasso?"  seems to be the rage among the loosely affiliated members.

Elon Musk, the SpaceX whiz kid Brownsville's politicos are totally enraptured with, continues to play games with the region's psyche.  This was written in Mean Mister Brownsville 6/2/12:

"In a genius move, SpaceX owner Elon Musk threw our community a giant psychological curve ball by stating publicly that greatly factoring in his decision to locate his launch station among three sites, Puerto Rico, south Florida and Cameron County, would be how receptive the individual communities were to his overtures. That deftly shifted the microscope from peering at the merits of the project to seeing how high we could jump for it."

Now that our community is jumping like crazy, Musk puts the pressure back on Puerto Rico and south Florida: " Originally Puerto Rico and Florida had made stronger cases than Texas, but that may be changing." Our city and county officials have already given Musk the impression they will give him a blank check on incentives.  After all, they were already wearing "SpaceX" insignias on their blazers on the evening of the so-called public forum at ITEC.  So much for skilled negotiation with a company you're ironing out a business deal with.

  1. Jim ,...you are a man that seems to to be fair,...having stated that,...it would not be fair if you did not mention that Aurora De La Garza paraded Mrs. Begum to her staff. If you remember, Aurora had a fundraiser at Dr. Guajardo's house to pay back the county for the money they spent on her and Joe Rivera's prtraits. Alex Begum gave money to that cause.Do you not see it appropriate to mention the same as you did for Erin being paraded to the County Clerks office? Just saying..... for fairnes sake,....you can not let your dislike for a candidatre blind your judgement.

  2. Mr. Barton, I have to agree with anonymous at 6:30 a.m. I am not 100% sure that Mrs. De la Garza is supporting Mrs. Begum, but I do know for a fact that Mrs. Begum has been in her office and Mrs. De la Garza was introducing Mrs. Begum around. Everyone knows that Alex donates to Mrs. De la Garza and Mrs. de la Garza is easily influenced by money...

    1. Did you just comment twice? lol. If that's true, De la Garza needs to be called out as well. Rivera and De la Garza are not exactly model citizens. Our area is so desperate for local heroes, we prematurely named a building after them just because of a fairly long tenure. How embarrassing it will be after De la Garza is indicted as many expect!

    2. Jim,
That is why we should not name buildings, roads, highways etc. for politicians. These people should not use work time to kiss ass to the politicians. Ni uno ni el otro. You and yours have a blessed weekend. :)))

  3. Jim, You say Elon Musk threw a "curve ball" to this community.....and what facts do you have to justify that comment??? Or is it just another blog "pull it out your ass" idea, with no facts to back it up.

    1. I honestly don't think I can help you here. Ask a neighbor, teacher or parent to explain what is meant by a "psychological curve ball." I honestly don't mean that unkindly. It's just a comprehension problem on your part.

    2. LOL. Jim it's not his fault he has significant limited intellectual capacity. Anyway, you should have just told him to to go back to school to learn reading comprehension and critical thinking.

  4. I do believe Elon Musk's first choice for the new spaceport has been Cameron County all along. SpaceX had previously been negotiating with Willacy County but nothing happened there. Of course they have to present backup plans to NASA whose giving them money to build up their company, that's why Florida and Puerto Rico were also in the running. To SpaceX, Brownsville makes a whole lot of sense since their rocket testing facility is in McGregor, TX and NASA's control center (with who they communicate during government missions), is in Houston. Brownsville's proximity to these locations and the ecuator, yet still being within the U.S. makes it accessible, and maybe even perfect. So, local leaders probably had more leverage than they were aware of.
The entire project is still the best thing that could happen to this community in a long time. Not only is this company making history, it's leading the pack in the new space race. I compare this new movement to the railroad system back when it got started, which helped our country grow and expand across the continent.
I hope state and local leaders, Environmentalists, and the public can all come to terms and find a way to help SpaceX achieve their goal of expanding the limits of human transportation beyond just our atmosphere and the moon. The benefits are endless. This "Space Revolution" is happening with or without us. I chose with.

  5. A family member of mine would tell me horror stories about rampant intimidation tactics used by Mr. Joe Rivera. All in an effort to get his staff to sell raffle tickets for political fundraising. Just Wrong Joe.

  6. Must really suck when the only thing you have to wear (that will fit) is something orange and it makes you look like a KP at the county jail.

  8. "Must really suck when the only thing you have to wear (that will fit)"

Who is he? I mean, he looks like a patient at a mental hospital, but I would not doubt that he is one of Browntown's up and coming politicos. Hell, maybe even some attorney and soon to be judge? He is sitting there conversing with Erin.
