City Commission to Consider Action Item on Proposed Smoking Ban July 3, 2012

It appears the City of Brownsville is considering a ban on smoking in all public buildings.  There may also be language in the ordinance with respect to smoking within twenty feet of the entrance of buildings.  I have no problem with a smoking ban as it is a health issue.  Second hand smoke invades the private space of others, violating their right to a clean air space.

Hear is the ACTION ITEM on the agenda July 3, 2012:

8.

Public Hearing and ACTION on FIRST READING on Ordinance Number 2012-1556 an
ordinance to Repeal Chapter 54, Article VI, Smoking in Public Places Section 54-171 thru
54-179; and promulgating a New Chapter 54, Article VI, Smoking in Public Places by
replacing it with Sections 54-171 thru 54-188. (Arturo Rodriguez – Health)

  2. Some more incoherent blabbering from a border Mexican. How can this English-challenged retard call out another when his English is so woeful? Only in our fair border town. I'm laughing, but somewhere this boy's teacher is rolling in her grave. Must be from Southmost, is what I say about this loser.

  3. We totally agree with this ordinance and believe it is in the best interest of the community. We don't smoke in my home and my friends who do smoke seem to have no problem and will go outside to smoke. That is what consideration and friendship brings. Public buildings should be smoke free. If the government can take God out of public buildings, they sure should take out smoke. If you want to smoke and kill yourself.....do it at home.

  4. You know, it would be one thing if Brownsville was spinning across the universe as the best damned city from Mercury to Pluto. But it's not, not even close. Railing against smoking in a town where problems mount by the day is just damned lame. Alluding to God on this issue is childish. What one has to do with the other only this fool can comprehend. We live along the Mexican border, where anything goes. We drink, we get arrested; we commit adultery, we get shot; we cheat, we get caught; we corrupt and our corrupted. Our children lag behind those elsewhere and our politicians suck the Big One. Our little economy, the legal one, trudges along. Our beans in the rice & beans are not as good as they once were. Our women have abandoned morals. And you're worried about smoking?! Jesus, the killing stink coming from local outhouses would take care of smoke off cigarettes!

  5. I am totally for the ban of smoking in public buildings. If you want not to sound "communist" or "socialist" then put it out for a public vote and let the citizens decide.
I agree with Anon that our politicians "suck the Big One", but I disagree on everything else. NOT EVERYONE in our town is a cheater, or has abandoned morals. Maybe he/she should change friends, acquaintances or places he/she visits around town. Tell me who you hang around with and I will tell you who you are (Dime con quien andas y te dire quien eres).

  6. (We don't smoke in my home and my friends who do smoke seem to have no problem and will go outside to smoke.)

Can't believe people still do that, in this day and age. That it's still even legal to do it.

  7. They should spend their time cleaning out the corruption that is a cancer on the city, less time monitoring random stranger's smoking habits on patios.
This seems like a distraction from issues like, WTF is United Brownsville accomplishing for the thousands of tax dollars they are being paid?

  8. This Anon who has been posting here sounds like someone who has a severe hatred problem for this area. I really don't know or care to know why but judging from his comments on everything Browntown, if he dislikes it so much he should get the hell out if he lives here. Yes Brownsville has numerous problems but if you can't contribute towards making this a better place, shut your trap up or go somewhere else where you will be much happier. Just saying.

  9. Hello! I know this is kinda off topic but I was wondering which
blog platform are you using for this website? I'm getting fed up of Wordpress because I've had issues with hackers and I'm looking at alternatives for another platform. I would be awesome if you could point me in the direction of a good platform.

Stop by my website; wordpress blogs
