"I hear the train a comin'
It's rollin' round the bend,
And I ain't seen the sunshine,
Since I don't know when"
Johnny Cash, "Folsom Prison Blues"
Mayor Tony explained the postponement of the Brownsville-Matamoros Sister Cities Dinner planned to be held on the B&M Bridge:
"We had all the food ready. We had all the wine ready. We had the decoration ready. We had everything in place. But there's a 4:30 pm train coming through here and we were going to have to set up in like two and a half hours In order to abide by all those regulations, it would be almost impossible to get it done. We got it all done except for the logistics of the railroad itself."
The rescheduled date has not been firmed up, but may likely hinge on the completion of the West Rail Project, which would remove the threat of a freight train spoiling the dinner of the Brownsville-Matamoros elite. Martinez hinted that National Hispanic Heritage Month which runs from September 15 to October 15 might encompass the new target date.
Reportedly, all tickets for the event were sold, but if more tables are added, extending the date to October would mean a couple would only have to set aside $30 per week for the next 5 months to buy two $300 tickets for the meal. Proceeds from the dinner go to two children's charities.
