If We Could Clone A Candidate for Congress, Would It Be Ramiro Garza?
Overheard at a pachanga recently: "What our area really needs is a young, articulate, educated hispanic candidate with a great resume'." Well, in the flock of eleven from both parties running for the new congressional district 34 seat, Ramiro Garza, among possibly one or two others, fits that description precisely.
Garza, born in Brownsvillle, but raised in Port Isabel, is a family man in his mid-30's. While working at Louie's Back Yard on the island, Garza earned an MBA at the University of Texas at Brownsville. He served as an administrator for the Economic Development Corporation of Port Isabel, then as executive director for the same corporation in Edinburg and, finally, as Edinburg City Manager.
With none of the candidates having legislative experience with the exception of the elderly Paul Haring of Goliad, it comes down to skill set. How well a candidate communicates, speaks extemporaneously and interacts on a personal level may be an indicator of how effective they would be in Congress. Having ideas, some vision of what our area needs and how to get it certainly trumps vague generalities and platitudes.
Garza's main focus in his 15 year work history has been job creation. After more than two decades being represented by the corrupt, self-serving Solomon Ortiz, it would be a different feel to have someone actually working to improve the quality of life in our area. Ramiro Garza seems to deserve some consideration for that office.
Footnote: Nena videotaped Ramiro's 12 minute speech, but the acoustics were such that the video in unintelligible.

If We Could Clone A Candidate for Congress, Would It Be Ramiro Garza?
ReplyDeleteNo.
-God
A clone is an artifical being. Is that what we want to serve is in Congress???
ReplyDeleteJimmy, I've noticed that Phil Vela is getting contributions from outside the Valley area. One was from New Jersey, what in the hell is a company from the NY area donating funds to a local candidate.
ReplyDeleteJimmy, I think Phil Vela resides in Corpus Christi, we don't need another Salomon Ortiz.
We need a local candidate, that will address local issues, not issues from New York city. Seriously I am Vela fatigue.
Saw the candidates on the Television forum, Triani and Garza were the most articulate, adela garza was horrible as were all the other candidates.
ReplyDelete"..Vela is getting contributions from outside the Valley area."
ReplyDeleteEducate yourself and pay attention. The newly created congressional district 34 is composed of the area from along the Gulf Coast between Houston and Brownsville. Did you think that district 34 only covered the RGV?
Voter #6723
Voter #6723, time to educate YOURself, because north of Kelberg County, CD34 veers away from the coastline.
ReplyDeleteHow many of those map pins do you think fall within CD34? If you're counting ANY of 'em around Nueces County/Corpus Christi Bay, fix yourself, 'cause you're wrong. Not only does the quote in question above stand true, it can be enhanced to:
"...Vela is getting contributions from outside CD34. Chingos of them."
The Vela camp owes you a beer this just demonstrates how well-known Filemon Vela is throughout Texas, how generous and diversified Vela's supporters are. With MAP PINS!!! Puro nerdo. The Vela people wouldn't even have wasted the time to do this, but I'm sure they say gracias for wasting your time on them.
DeleteBTW, Jim, your current blog post template kind'a sucks. With the color scheme you've selected, Links/URL's barely stand out from standard text. How else are we to educate these unwashed masses if the tools to teach them to fish are so puny?

ReplyDeleteLOL, you misquote yourself, sir.
You said, "..Vela is getting contributions from outside the Valley area." NOT "...Vela is getting contributions from outside CD34."
Try to keep your lies straight.
There, that's much better. Thanks, Jim.
ReplyDeleteAs a former City Manager, why are City Managers supporting Denise Saenz-Blanchard and not Ramiro. She also has the support of TSTA and John Wood along with other elected officials across the district. Denise is not Solomon, he along with Lencho are supporting Villalobos
ReplyDeleteFilemon Vela has my vote. The rest have no experience or experience being crook Solomon Ortiz mouthpiece for the last decade which is as bad as electing another crook like Villalobos.
DeleteMore Lies what we expect from Solomon Ortiz's flonkies. Why the valley is poor after Solomon Ortiz 20 yrs lies and promises. 20 millin bridge to nowhere. No way John Wood coudnt win his own race now this loser will win a race for a SoloMAMON Ortiz DemocRATA puro pedo
DeleteJim, I agree with you. Garza is the right person to represent us. I'm very impressed with that young man. He has my vote.
ReplyDeleteRamiro is a vote for Endinburg, he represents them not us. He's a former city manager and yet city managers are supporting Denise, along with the teachers...do your homework and find out for yourself. She's got more endorsements from elected and former elected officials than everyone put together.Ramiro claims he created 10,000 jobs in Edinburg and yet their unemployment is at 13%. You notice Troiani is not claiming the AOBE anymore.
