Cheezmeh Goes 0 for 2 in TSC Elections~Will the Voters Pitch A Shutout Against the Embattled Group?

     "This is not our first rodeo!"  Linda Dragustinovis Castro was quoted as saying to a candidate pondering participation in the Cheezmeh candidate forum this past March.  The implication was that Brownsville Cheezmeh was a well-oiled public relations machine operating from a foundation of political savvy and commanding a veritable army of black-shirted foot soldiers for the grunt work.  That was the Cheezmeh illusion, the mirage, but the reality may have simply been that of the indefatigable Linda spreading plastic table cloths and party decor, assisted by a handful of  Cheezmeh devotees while brother Erasmo power broked from his Lazy Boy recliner in Austin.

     The forum, attended by 150 was hurt by the acoustics at the VFW hall rendering videos of the event unintelligible, but will likely be remembered by a lawyer's threatened assault of State Representative Alex Torres.  which was thwarted by the quick thinking and firmness of the tandem of Robert Uresti and Tad Hasse.  If Uresti and Hasse were the muscle that night, both men likely counted on Cheezmeh's rumored muscle of 5,000 strong to put them over the top in the TSC Trustees race in districts 6 and 7.

     Tad, for one, working tirelessly, calling his many contacts and friends all over the city, garnered 709 votes.   Tad easily has that many friends and acquaintances in the city.  Lifelong resident Robert Uresti claimed 832 votes.  Where was the Cheezmeh influence thought to be easily enough to elect these two, especially in a low turnout election?  Cheezmeh whiffed on both races and now stands 0-2.

     Proving the old adage "a fool and his money will soon be parted" two other candidates have seemingly been regular monetary contributors to the Cheezmeh money pit.  Carlos Masso, the beleaguered Port of Brownsville official, haunted by connections with Dannenbaum and the 21 Million Dollar Bridge to Nowhere was an early Cheezmeh benefactor, sponsoring the BBC Bowling Tournament.  Also Erin Hernandez with close ties to politiqueras and DNA ties to one of Brownsville's most corrupt public officials, Ernie Hernandez, joined in sponsoring the bowling tourney.  Today, the poorly kept secret is out.  Brownsville Cheezmeh has endorsed both candidates.  As Gomer Pyle would say:  "Surprise, surprise!"


     Erasmo pontificates on the Cheezmeh philosophy of picking candidates to support:

"Will I ask friends to help me elect candidates that I have personally spoken to? Candidates who I feel will help serve our community? Yes, I surely will. If people don’t like it, tough shit. I have faith that my friends will know that my suggestion is not based on which candidate paid for the biggest advertisement on the webpage. I have faith that my friends will know that my suggestion is not based on what I can benefit from the candidate, like some union just did with their pathetic endorsements. I have faith that my friends will stand with me and vote in the individuals who are experienced, tried and tested. Bronwsville Cheezmeh is continuing to grow. I am humbled by the friend requests, the subscriptions, and the private messages. I am my community’s servant. All the haters can go fuck themselves."

     So, two more politicos get stamped with the Cheezmeh brand.  Have the 5,000 Cheezmeh faithful who chose to stay home during the TSC election become energized to push Masso and Hernandez-Garcia over the top?  Or will the results be the same as Cheezmeh's "first rodeo?"
