Armando Villalobos Leaves Us A Legacy

by Jim Barton·

Armando Villalobos will not do what Carlos Cascos suggests.  He will not resign, but will fight until the bitter end just as a long line of corrupt politicians before him have done.  He will rally what's left of his supporters to "fight" with him.
"It's all political.  I've done nothing wrong."   See John Edwards.

He's right in the sense that the burden is on the prosecution.  They have to dot every "i" and cross every "t" or face a mistrial.  The possibility of a "Casey Anthony" type jury is ever present.  Ask Pat Ahumada.  So, Villalobos has nothing to lose by putting on a brave face, proclaiming his innocence and going through the several motions of a campaign for congress.

The citizens of Cameron County, though, have already lost and will continue to be victimized by Villalobos for perhaps decades.  If the evidence proves cases were fixed, sentences altered and the convicted allowed to walk free, then justice was not served for the victims.  Hermila Hernandez, murdered by Amit Livingston did not get justice.  Fidel Gonzalez, murdered by Jose Alfredo "Pepe" Villarreal, did not get justice.  Certainly, the families of both victims did not get the justice they deserved.

But the damage to the system, the unevenness of the court may go much deeper.  With the cases mentioned above, the F.B.I. is confident of having evidence to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.  How many other court decisions were made based on monetary considerations?  How many bonds were reduced?  How many convictions were not pursued?  Those unknowns shatter the foundation of the court.

Conversely, what about defendents who refused to cough up funds to Villalobos and his co-conspirators?  Were their sentences stiffer?  Were their bonds higher?  In fact, is not every decision made during the Villalobos tenure now suspect if the allegations are correct?

A Brownsville lawyer messaged me earlier today with these exact concerns:

There is the legal question of any prior cases under his administration have been tainted and could be null and void. Research is being done on the issue. Also, what happens to those cases that chose "not to pay the piper" and they got a stiffer sentence.... will they be released from jail?? Some are hoping there are audio tapes that could help their cases to be reopen. since the tapes are not public ... they are waiting. Anyway, keep up the good work. Hi to Nena"

So, Armando, however things turn out, you will leave a legacy.  If the charges prove to be true, that legacy will haunt Cameron County for many years to come.

  2. Villalobos is so full of himself! He knows no shame. What kind of fools does he think we are? His arogance is beyond belief.

  3. Villalobos is just another Dumgokrat who followed the path of corruption laid by Gilberto Hinojosa and Conrado Cantu.....and continues today with the help of Dumbokrats Omar Lucio and Auroroa de la Garza. Villalobos followed the path of corruption, but was not smart enough to get safely to the end of the path witout getting caught. The failures of the Dumbokratic Party can be seen in the increased number of "Republicans" who are on the ballot. Citizens are looking for options against the tradition of corruption in Cameron County.

  4. "Legacy"....what "legacy do you think is being left by Villalobos. His legacy is just part of the "legacy" of corruption of Cameron County Democrats. Villalobos is just a nat on a pigs ass....as far as establishing a "legacy". He is just another corrupt politican who has fed at the public tit because he can make his way in life on his own.

    1. A legacy can be good or bad, positive or negative. It's simply what you leave behind, the result of your efforts, a consequence or the aftermath. Please don't limit the word to a positive connotation only.
