Are You REALLY Tired of Politicians Who Use Their Office for Personal Gain? Say No to Erin Hernandez

The young lady on the left does not know any better.  She grew up in a political family oblivious to ethics.  Her dad, County Commissioner Ernie Hernandez has used the City of Brownsville and Cameron County as his personal ATM machine for nearly three decades.  As a city, we were just too weak, too ignorant, too apathetic to stop him.

Ernie has done business with the city with his wrecker services, his printing company and his vending company in CLEAR violation of every standard of ethics for public officials.  I apologize if you were an honest, hardworking taxpayer in any of those businesses and Ernie took money from your pocket and food from the mouths of your children.  As a city we were just too weak, too ignorant and too apathetic to stop him.

In the news recently, you probably read about Ernie getting a job for his convicted felon brother-in-law, Robert Cadriel.  Ernie wanted him to work on the international bridges, but Robert could only score a 31 and 33 on the civil service test by himself.  Not to worry.  Someone in the Cameron County Human Resources Department took the test for Ernie's intellectually challenged brother-in-law and scored a 96.  Ernie said he knew "nothing" of this, but allowed the Human Resources director to take the fall for him.   As a city, were were just too weak, too ignorant, too apathetic to stop him.

Now, Ernie wants to promote his daughter as Justice of the Peace.  She will not be a JP long, because he already has his eyes on a district judgeship for her.  Ernie is supremely confident his plan will work.  He knows we are too weak, too ignorant and too apathetic to stop him.

  1. please name a politician that will not do or has not done something for personal gain. I can assure you that the person you are supporting will at one time or another do the same, even if its in the slightest form as simple as to ask a favor. I think you are smarter than this Jim please don't act naive.

  2. "Too weak, too ignorant, too apathetic to stop them" It is amazing how Jim Barton has the ability to put a HUGE problem within our community in simple perspective. This message merits a loud scream to those adult citizens that choose not to vote! We are in dire straits because we choose to be.

  3. I've noticed that most of you bloggers use the same argument against Erin. Don't vote for her because her dads the boogeyman. OK I get it. But what has Erin done that's bad? Ernie's not running for JP. And that whole argument about personal gain could be used for Begum as well. What would her family of successful private injury lawyers have to gain from having their mom as a JP?

    1. Erin has barely started in politics. She did serve as the Treasurer for John Villarreal when he ran for the city commission. Since she was serving as a municipal judge in Primera, that was a clear ethical violation. Like father, like daughter.

  6. Children learn their values from their parents, Erin's family values along with the Cadriel genes come from the sewage

  7. When the vending issue came up recently, Erin told the Herald "I own the company now". Erin was present and defending the illegal vote ballot fight in our County. She runs around and takes pictures proudly with every known politiqueras in Brownsville. Is she her own person? NO! She has shown everyone that she and her father are one and the same.

  8. She has forged many a signature on stolen mail-in ballots. Just like her mother.

  9. It is amazing how much she looks like her father....and as a loyal daughter, we can expect corrupt politics as normal from the Hernandez family. She is ovbiously running for this public office because she can't make it as a private attorney....so the public teat is easier than working for a living. It seems that Ernie is working hard to get more of his family employed by the county than Aurora de la Garza....whose family can be found on every floor of the county courthouse.....and her thief son is probably one of them.

  10. Brownsville Cheezmah trash is right. I thought the watch dog group would have been all over this family. I just you cannot be a watch dog when money hanging out of pocket.

    1. Many of those people being paid a few bucks to hold signs in the hot sun, couldn't write a coherent sentence to save their lives. Jim's time is more effective being spent, shaping public opinion with his writing
