ABOUT RIO BRAVO

Rio Bravo Wildlife Institute (RBWI) located in Brownsville Texas, provides integrated programs that inspire collaborative ways to give back to the community through initiatives that support, uplift and have lifelong benefits for both humans and the natural world.

Our approach is to work with children, who we believe are the biggest agents of change, in collaboration with educators, business, organizations and government entities with a whole systems approach that springs from the recognition that lasting transformation requires innovation and involvement at all levels.

At The Learning Gardens, learning comes alive for children and adults through hands-on education in an outdoor laboratory setting; engaging diverse learning styles, integrating science, technology and the arts; and showcasing sustainable practices. RBWI’s Eco- Bus allows us to reach beyond the Gardens with the same principles. Orchards have the potential to engage everyone.

We see our orchard’s function as two-fold: to produce free fresh fruit for the community, and to educate the public about organic orchards and food sustainability. The orchard will add to the rich mix at the Learning Gardens providing a place for social play, to learn and exchange knowledge, to care for and work with fruit of many kinds and somewhere to explore and show off how to live well with nature.

We hope to transform space at the Learning Gardens that is waiting for a purpose into an orchard filled with opportunities and activities that rewards the community with joy

  1. They need to send money trees to Brownsville. We have a lot of fruit (and a lot of fruity people) already. What we need is money...investment, job training and jobs.
