Commissioner John Villarreal Attempts to Deny CAVA Free Speech

r

A representative of CAVA, Citizen's Against Voter Abuse, Mary Helen Flores, was passing out flyers at Earthfest at Linear Park Saturday, detailing her group's offer of a $5,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of anyone perpetrating voter fraud in Cameron County.

While at the event, Flores was approached by Commissioner John Villarreal asking her to cease her activity. He implied that she was passing out information prejudicial or in support of certain candidates.

"I'm well aware of the need to not confuse my work with CAVA with political activity. I'm very careful to not combine the two. CAVA is about voter education. It is non-partisan," stated Flores in a telephone interview.

Mean Mister Brownsville will try to get more information as the evening progresses on this story. It may be a simple case of a public official not understanding the First Amendment or a display of partisanship on his part. Commissioner John Villarreal initially listed Erin Hernandez Garcia as his campaign treasurer at the start of his campaign for City Commissioner and is close to the Hernandez's. The Hernandez's are notorious for using politiqueras to win elections, so that may be the motivation for the attempted free speech interference.

It's ironic that City Commissioner Villarreal would feign righteous indignation with a citizen exercising First Amendment rights, but conveniently looks the other way while Matamoros dentist Dr. Oziel Davila Robles bilks the city out of $400,000 on his watch. This was an odd situation for young John to get verbal as he has scarcely uttered a word in his first year at City Commission deliberations.

  2. It's not just John Villarreal, but many of our young people have grown up under corruption exhibited by people like Ernie Hernandez and Charlie Cabler, Eddie Lucio, Rene Oliveira, Abel Limas, Gilberto Hinojosa, Conrado Cantu. When they get older and see the older generation cutting deals and buying influence, they just say "cool, so that's how you get ahead in Brownville." The cycle continues.

  4. Way to go Erin, in brainwashing John!!!! Mary Helen is in her right to let the citizens of Brownsville know of all the voter abuse that has occurred in the past! Yes, I do agree she has an agenda, and it's stopping the politiquera's corruption. Hopefully, God will intercede and knock some sense into Herminia Becerra! I, like many other people, hope you do not win the election. Even though Yolanda may not be as smart and savvy as you, at least she is the better person between the two of you (because in reality the two of you are the frontrunners). So my vote goes to YOLANDA BEGUM!!! Que chinguen a su madre los Hernandez. Ya basta!!!!

  5. Mary Helen does have an agenda. She is Ruben pena's employee and is obsessed with the hernandez's. If she was a legitimate groups she would investigate all voter fraud, not just be obsessed with an election that occurred 2 years ago. CAVA is a bunch of crap.
