Erin Hernandez Garcia Copycats Begum with Casino Fundraiser at Ice House Cantina on Farm Road 511

"Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery" I was told as a kid. On the heels of Yolanda Begum's popular loteria fundraiser at the V.I.C.C, Erin Hernandez Garcia sponsored a casino style event at the Ice House, a cantina with corrugated metal interior walls located along FM 511 in an area zoned for heavy industry. Casino style games gave supporters a chance to win a variety of wrapped and ribboned prizes.

Ms. Garcia, who along Begum and three others are running for Justice of the Peace, District 2-2, is part of the politically active Hernandez family, long associated with the use of politiqueras to influence elections. Young Ms. Garcia has gained the support of Brownsville Cheezmeh with the group followers pictured here.

This fundraiser allows the campaign to purchase more political signs as Ms. Garcia herself stated:
"Right now the campaign is actively getting our signs up."

Recently Ms. Begum complained that many of her signs were being stolen or mutilated. Unfortunately, sign theft and destruction has become an issue in recent campaigns. She has filed a police report but no arrests have been made.

Interestingly, Ms. Hernandez, whose supporters have criticized Begum for speaking English with a pronounced accent, incorporated some Spanish phrases on her page announcing the casino event:

"Gracias por su ayuda en nuestra campana.... Thank your for your support and sharing our page. Quinto sorteo para nuestra noche de casino. Todo lo que tienes que hacer es oprimir LIKE en nuestra pagina y este mensaje."

Yolanda Begum should feel extremely flattered.

  2. I was invited to Sophia Benavidez "loteria". Is she a copycatter too? Please, you create the problem/conflict. Just let it go and let the candidates stand on their own platform.

  3. Man, that Erin Garcia is outright ugly, as are the rest of the women who attended the function. Ugliness must run in someone's genes.

  4. Jimmy, I don't know about Brownsville, or Cameron county for that matter. Ugly women, politiqueras galore, crooked politicians, you name it and it will be found in these two places.

  7. Who would have guessed our beloved John Villarreal is part of the Hernandez clan. How far do the Hernandez tentacles extend? Residents of District 4 look at what you have voted into office, a politician bought and paid for by Ernie Hernandez. Que asco!

  10. Jimbo, Have you seen what Erasmo wrote on Brownsville Cheezmeh? He criticizes Yolanda Begum for wearing too much makeup and having a bad hairstyle at the Mattingly thing. Really dumb stuff. You got to read it. I know all that shit was spoonfed him by Linda cuz he wasn't there. Funny thing is Linda looks like a bitch in heat most of the time.

  11. I attended several forums and I recall the politiquera question being brought up at all of them. Both Dr. Zavaleta and Mr. Villarreal pledged to not hire politiqueras and throughout the campaign Dr. Zavaleta always accused Mr. Villarreal of hiring them through the Hernandez's. When the votes came in, Dr. Z had 97 mail-in votes while Mr. Villarreal had only 10. Who hired the politiqueras? You tell me. Commissioner Villarreal has proven to be an independent vote on the commission. Shame on you for making these accusations about him based on his friendship with other people. All of my family voted for him because he knocked on our door, sat at our table, and told us his point-of-view on the issues we asked about. Even after being elected, Commissioner Villarreal has reached out to us to get our feedback on issues. It is refreshing to see an honest young man in office who is not corrupt and influenced by others. He is representing us well and we're proud to see a District 4 resident up there and not a politician who does not care about his district.

  12. I've reported this several times. It's obvious John did not use politiqueras.

  13. Man whatever... You all get your heads out of your asses and see the big picture. You all have to act like children and make fun of looks. Instead of seeing what is best for this city. Yolanda Begum isn't right for the position, period. Do you really want some random Joe to be a JP? Especially if something was to happen to you and you had to be in court with this JP that doesn't know what she is doing? I sure and hell wouldn't. Begum is inexperienced and a liar. Read some real news before you believe what Jim or anyone else has to say.
