Jerry Danache |
Unlike many of you, I can count my true friends on one, at the most, two hands. I've many acquaintances, but few actual friends.
Jerry Danache, with a long tenure with the Mexican consulate in Los Angeles, Jamaica and Brownsville, someone who knows every politico on both sides of the Rio Grande, is certainly one of those friends.
Typically, Jerry would call me a day or so in advance of a meeting with a candidate at the Toddle Inn on Central Boulevard, only because Jerry regarded that as my favorite breakfast spot.
Then, a few days ago, I was awakened by an 8:00 AM call from Juan Montoya of El Rrun Rrun asking me if I knew what had happened to Jerry and if he'd been deported.
I knew nothing, and after a few calls, knew little more. Now, it seems, my worst fears proved true.
You'd be surprised, but I don't blame the super-ugly Tom Homan, the head of I.C.E. or the compulsive liar, Donald J. Trump, for any of this.
52.5% of Cameron County voted for this bull shit.
Am I calling you dumbasses? Well, yes. You're low information voters; duped, tricked and fooled by a con man as was much of the rest of the country.
OK, so now Trump is said to being going after the homegrown? If that includes me, I'm fine with it. My birth certificate indicates that my mother was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta, and, based on what I've read, Canadian citizenship is easily within my reach.
At 77, my remaining years are short, but my concern and fears for those of you living under this heartless dictatorship is real.
Go into hiding. Do not go out. Do not answer the door. Save yourself.
ReplyDeleteA true friend wouldn't have needed a few phone calls to know the truth of his deportation. Jerry used you into thinking you were his friend. He has been deported for a week and you barely write about it. Why was he deported, Jim? Did he have the proper documents to be in our country? Write about that.
