Greenlanders Protesting Against U.S. Control

Yes, Trump wants Greenland, the world's largest island, mostly covered in ice as much as a mile thick and Russia's president is OK with it.  Neither Trump nor Putin seems the least bit bothered by the fact that Greenland is a self-governing territory of the Kingdom of Denmark and Greenlanders have made it absolutely clear they DO NOT want to be part of the United States.

Just the fact that a murderous dictator like Vlad Putin agrees with Trump's plan to "annex" Greenland should make our budding imperialists rethink the plan. All of a sudden, phrases I heard as a teenager are being regurgitated, like "Yankee Imperialism" and "The Ugly American."

Notice the words emanating from Putin's forked tongue:  “It can look surprising only at first glance and it would be wrong to believe tha t this is some sort of extravagant talk by the current U.S. administration,” Putin said. “It’s obvious that the United States will continue to systematically advance its geostrategic, military-political and economic interests in the Arctic.”

Translation:  If you guys take Greenland, you can't say a damn thing about our "annexation" of the Ukraine.

That's a deal Trump might gladly take since he's already mimicking Kremlin talking points, falsely claiming that Ukraine is the aggressor while withdrawing U.S. military "aid."

Would Trump involve our military in "taking" Greenland? His words seem to make that implication.

"So we'll, I think, we'll go as far as we have to go," he said.

Vice President and Mrs. J.D. Vance were so unwelcome in Greenland, they ended up cancelling the cultural aspect of their trip, only going to the U.S. military base, now renamed the Pituffik Space Base.

J.D. Vance may just have leapfrogged Spiro Agnew and Dan Quayle as the dumbest VP in my memory, saying Denmark was "not doing its job" and is not a "good ally" because they don't want to donate Greenland to the U.S.

Rufus Gifford, the former U.S. Ambassador to Denmark, took considerable issue with Vance's words, stating that, as ambassador, he frequently approached Danish officials with requests to deploy their forces to danger zones, including missions against ISIS in Iraq, the removal of chemical weapons from Syria, and efforts to combat the Ebola outbreak in Africa.

"Denmark always responded with an unequivocal and quick 'yes', underscoring its commitment to our alliance," Gifford said.

So, why does Trump want to steal the world's largest island that's part of the Kingdom of Denmark?

Rare Earth Minerals in Greenland

Well, underneath ice that's as much as mile thick, are minerals, not just uranium and iron, but rare earth minerals, a group of 17 metals valued for their use in advanced industries from smartphones to Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machines to weapons systems.

Also, Greenland's location, adjacent to the Arctic Ocean, provides a shortcut for ships traveling between the U.S. and Asia, about 40%  than routes using the Panama or Suez Canal.

OK, Greenland has a strategic location and valuable minerals.  Does that justify stealing it?

Greenland, the world's largest island, is larger than Alaska and Montana combined, with a smaller population than the city of Harlingen

  1. The Greenland people are going to have long sleepless nights, the USA will take control on a weekend, on a holiday, on a Monday. Scary. Who is going to help Greenland? They need to get ready before the USA takes over the island.
