"I just wanted to make clear, Jim, that what you write is art," Mr. Ramirez told me.
"I could not do what you do, nor could most people," Ramirez added, after I protested a bit.
"Your writing gives people a vision they didn't see before, or, if they did see it, they didn't quite understand it until you spelled it out."
Well, it's easy to see how a painting or sculpture could suggest a vision or a view of life.
I also understand how, even a recording artist, as singers are often called, could interpret a song in such a way so as to paint a picture, even though the lyrics and music were of someone else's creation.
Nat King Cole or Johnny Mathis carried you right with them in their interpretation of a song writer's lyrics as does Luis Miguel.
For me, blogging has never been about news reporting, but about sharing some insight behind the news, in fact, those same words used to appear just below the blog's byline, then disappeared somehow.
Anyway, just thinking about what Ramirez told me years ago, made me wonder if I should pick up my game a bit, that is, if writing a blog can really be considered art.
