And taking the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven, and blessed them; and he broke, and distributed to his disciples, to set before the multitude

Saint Luke Chapter 9, Verse 16

Like Jesus of Nazareth, Mayor John Cowen fed the multitude December 7th, or at least 500 of them, in the parking lot of the Brownsville Events Center, just off Paredes Line Road.

Also braving the frigid 52 F Brownsville weather were Apostles/City Commissioners Roy De Los Santos and Pedro Cardenas, Pedro somewhat of a surprise show in view of his frequent City Commission absences.

Greeting the driver of each vehicle, High Priest Rodrigo Moreno of Pink Ape Media checked to see if indeed the email invitation the city had forwarded had been received.

Leading the vehicles through a labyrinth of traffic cones was a taxpayer-funded Brownsville Police Department vehicle, one of several such utilized by the event.

Police in uniform also provided traffic control and security for the hundreds of cars waiting to get two styrofoam containers in a plastic bag, each container holding two cheese enchiladas, beans and rice.

We're hoping that Cowen, who's reportedly not running for reelection as Mayor, funded the event, not burdening the taxpayers with renting the facility and paying for police protection and traffic control for political activity.

  1. The cold weather, so early in the morning to get in line and the money spent were no obstacles for people to show their love and admiration for such a great man: Mr. John Cowen Jr. This is a family legacy: to give to the community. Jim Barton go to the Zoo and explain the story of John Cowen Senior who donated money to improve a section of the zoo. Please. It is expensive but take a picture of the plaque that is located there inside the zoo. When you have time... and money. So expensive.
