Donald Trump's successful campaign for a second term was based on staying out of jail, but also retribution and revenge on his enemies. Oh, first thing, though, he'll pardon those now imprisoned for their role in the January 6 insurrection, an event he incited that he now describes as "pure love."
52.4% of Cameron County voters support that position as they voted for the man as President and may be interested in their candidate's targets for revenge.
The list of those Trump wants prosecuted, jailed or even executed is quite long, so we'll mention just a few.
Joe Biden should be first on the list as Trump has already said he should be "arrested for treason," but went further: “I will appoint a real special prosecutor to go after the most corrupt president in the history of the United States of America, Joe Biden, and the entire Biden crime family.”
As to Vice President Kamala Harris, Trump has said she “should be impeached and prosecuted” for her role in permitting what he termed an “invasion” of the U.S. by undocumented immigrants.
Former President Barack Obama is also at the top of Trump's "to do" list and, according to Trump should face a "public military tribunal."
Although Trump lied during the campaign, saying he never said "lock her up" about Hillary Clinton, he contradicted that in June by saying: “Wouldn’t it be terrible to throw the president’s wife and the former secretary of state … into jail?. . . . “It’s a terrible, terrible, path that they’re leading us to and it’s very possible that it’s going to have to happen to them.”
Trump blames former Speaker Nancy Pelosi for failing to ensure adequate security at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, when Trump supporters stormed the building as Congress was preparing to certify Biden’s win in the 2020 presidential race. Also Trump says Pelosi “could’ve gone to jail for” ripping up a copy of Trump’s State of the Union address while sitting behind him on the House rostrum in 2020.
New York Attorney General Letitia James earned her place on Trump’s list for the lawsuit she brought alleging widespread fraud in Trump’s business empire. The case resulted in a judgment of more than $450 million against Trump, who has appealed. Trump says James “should be prosecuted, arrested and punished accordingly.”
Manhattan Justice Arthur Engoron, as well as former Representative Liz Cheney, should also "go to prison" according to Trump.
Special counsel Jack Smith “must go to prison,” Trump said. Trump also called him “Jackal Smith, a "career criminal” who “should be prosecuted for election interference and prosecutorial misconduct.” Trump also described Smith as “mentally deranged," saying he “should be thrown out of the country.”
Those are just a fraction of those folk Trump has publicly committed to arresting, jailing or executing.
While the majority in Cameron County (52.4%) have demonstrated their support for these actions of vengeance by voting for Trump as President, I'm pretty certain my grandchildren will understand that taking vengeance on political opponents is just as un-American as not supporting the peaceful transfer of power.
Trump fails miserably on both counts with the support of just over half the voters of Cameron County.
