Something Donald Trump has mentioned twice this week, invoking the Alien Enemies Act of 1798, is not a joke, as it was last employed during World War II against the Japanese or anyone determined to have 1/16th "Japanese blood."

In May of 1942, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066, removing 110,000 Japanese on the west coast from their homes and businesses, about 13,000 of them in and around my home town, Seattle.

There was no such internment of Italians or Germans, only the Japanese, although the U.S. had declared war on all three countries.

The State of Washington had no actual internment camps, simply assembly centers, one at Puyallup, a temporary facility where Japanese were sent for reassignment to an internment camp. (About 200 Alaskans were initially sent to Puyallup, including some indigenous people who happened to be married to Japanese.)

Trump made his racism very clear as he rode down the escalator in 2015 spouting that Mexican Nationals in this country were "rapists" and "murderers."

What completely baffles me is that recent polls show that 36% of Hispanics support Trump for President.  Those who do simply must have no idea where Trump wants to take this country.

  1. They like them because they are like him. Some Hispanics are racists and rich or their goal is to become like Trump.
