"My lack of education hasn't hurt me none. I can read the writing on the wall." Paul Simon
District 2 City Commissioner Linda C. Macias |
An effervescent young city commissioner, on her first anniversary of service to the City of Brownsville, met me at Ronnie Saenz' Spanky's on Palm Boulevard, while her young daughter was taking an hour's dance lessons across the street at the Palm Village Shopping Center, now undergoing renovation.
District 2 City Commissioner Linda C. Macias reverted to her skills as a professional counselor to be a good listener as I ranted about the 60's, reggae, the Delta blues, the Bible and the border.
Soon our session was up and she had to pick up her daughter. I'd used up our one hour interview time and then some without getting into the needs of District 2. What a journalist I am!
It didn't help that Ronnie Saenz had the walls of Spanky's covered with Beatles and Elvis memorabilia if that's any excuse for not asking appropriate questions.
Anyway, Macias sent a list to my email of what she and the commission have been doing the last year, but I'll read that later, as all I actually needed to hear was that it was all based on citizen requests while she was blockwalking during her first campaign for office.
Representative democracy is what it's all about even if fewer than 10% in our city care enough to vote.
Oh, Macias says a bond issue is coming to revitalize, widen and make safer the driving on Coffeeport Road, one of our towns significant arteries.
Macias has already pushed for some good work on Dana Avenue, long a clogged mess. This young lady is doing some good things.
Thank you Jim… she is a dynamic you lady. I voted for her and would do it again
ReplyDeleteI called all commissioners she is the only one that answered my call … n I thanked her for that… it’s rare in Brownsville for any politician to return your call
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work!!
ReplyDeleteI’ve known Linda for a long time she is a good wife. Mother and now a dedicated city commissioner
ReplyDelete11: 39 I meant a dynamic young lady
ReplyDeleteI live off Dana road and is one of the worst streets in city/ county. We are anxious to see that road fixed
ReplyDeleteYes, she is a rookie in the dirty business of politics but fortunately she is moving in a clean direction
ReplyDeleteIt’s good to see different and young people getting involved in our community… well done Linda
ReplyDeleteDid you ask her why she voted for an unconstitutional road fee and if she will vote against it tonight?
ReplyDeleteShe’s such a hard worker and I don’t think people understand this. She is always on the go for the better of Brownsville. She truly gives a lot of herself to her community, friends and family. Remember to take some time for yourself too Linda, a good leader also needs rest!
ReplyDeleteBeing a constituent of District 2 I can honestly see the improvements that have occurred in our area. From the streets being paved to the drainage in our area being unclogged and cleared out, our neighborhood is very content at this moment with our representative!
ReplyDeleteShe conducts cleaning campaigns regularly. That is awesome. One thing is to say they will do something, another thing is to actually coordinate all the resources to get the people to throw away their old tires, old furniture, etc
ReplyDeleteLinda is an awesome city commissioner! She’s always ready to help and she is very positive. I can see that Brownsville and the people of Brownsville are her priority. I’m so glad I voted for her and I’ll do it again without hesitation! Keep up the great work you are doing young lady!
ReplyDeleteThis is an upcoming politician at the COB Commission with no strings attached, she currently is committed to her family and her unpaid commissioners job. I first made contact with her during the Dana Rd TxDot meeting at Breeden Elementary and was impressed by her presentation regarding this proposed road expansion she was really prepared for this meeting. Though I do not live within the boundaries of the city if I could I would endorse and vote for her. We need public servants of our caliper.
