Tad Hasse

Brownsville's resident nerd, longtime City of Brownsville I-Tech wizard Tad Hasse, is our city's leading partisan, thus included in the dictionary definition of the word above.

A few years ago, running for the State Board of Education, Tad told some Hill Country farmers his goal to "exterminate Democrats," a phrase that got Tad a verbal chastising from former County Judge and our area's foremost Republican, Carlos Cascos.

While Hasse is no longer listed on the City Directory as an administrator, he's still actively promoting the G.O.P. and is currently running for Cameron County Republican Chair, an office being vacated by Morgan Cisneros Graham.

Tad and I have not spoken since 2020 when he welshed on a $100 bet on the Trump-Biden race, likely believing the Proud Boys would somehow reverse Trump's defeat.

Anyway, if you befriend Hasse, you deal, not only with his chainsmoking, but his considerable intaking of the noxious fumes of Breitbart, Newsmax and QAnon.

Back in the day, Hasse and Republican wonderboy Roman Perez would totally yuk it up at Chopstix Asian Cuisine on South Padre Hwy, finishing each other's sentences and laughing at each other's jokes.

Hopefully, they've long since resolved their bitter feud rooted in a perceived personal, but trivial, slight and come together at the Casino Night Fundraiser.

Deborah Bell

Hasse's November 7 opponent is another MAGA Republican, one Deborah Bell, pictured above. 

Bell may function adequately in the job, but no one can or will approach the rabid partisanship of Hasse.
