Jim Barton & Juan Montoya

Brownsville's leading blogger, Juan Montoya of El Rrun Rrun just ran an article, with a headline in large block lettering, informing those who pay for advertising or articles on his highly successful blog that they are getting a definite "bang for their buck."

𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗡𝗞 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗔𝗗𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗧𝗜𝗦𝗘𝗥𝗦~𝗥𝗨𝗡𝗥𝗨𝗡 𝗠𝗢𝗡𝗧𝗛𝗟𝗬 𝗕𝗔𝗡𝗚 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗕𝗨𝗖𝗞

Beneath that bold headline was impressive snapshot(posted below) of El Rrun Rrun's numerical standing in Brownsville.

The daily counts above, 7913 and 8246, indicate that those who support Juan's blog by paying for  advertisements or pointed political articles are indeed getting a definite "bang for their buck."

Our personal presence in the local blogosphere, with the Brownsville Observer and before it, Mean Mister Brownsville, blog offerings without advertising sponsors, but still we've filled some gaps in local reporting and commentary.

Our choice to go without advertising is not moralistic, but simply a stance that gives us total freedom to report or publish any story we wish, even if its steps on the toes of Brownsville's heaviest hitters.

We've covered closely the GBIC, BCIC and Brownsville's City Commission, and been instrumental, I think, in getting an Election Administrator replaced, covered the BISD bus fires, the hit-and-run death of Mary Tipton and subsequent trial of Marisa Govea Hernandez, so many stories come to mind without checking the archives.

In recent days, we've covered the challenges facing TSC's ITEC vocational education.  We'll continue to cover that story.

After Juan's posting above we decided to check our numbers, doing so at 7:08 PM, just as the internet shift changes.  Below is our daily count.

5405 for today and already 50 during the first 8 minutes of the next are not embarrassing numbers for a "lesser" blog without advertisers.

A young man, who blogged briefly in our town, but has since passed away, described my blog's current status as Brownsville Observer Light.  He did not mean that disrespectfully, but was just making an observation based on what he'd honestly observed since Nena's death 5-1/2 years ago and my subsequent marriage to Ana.

He told me to my face that my blog used to be more "hard-hitting," but, had gone a bit "soft," covering his face as he told me.

I did not disagree with him.

Since then, I've been following Ana around the country in her role as a traveling nurse, but my current plans include coming back to my Brownsville apartment in November.

During the interim, we'll keep on observing our home base from afar.
