St Louis, Brownsville, Mexico Railroad arrives in Brownsville on July 4, 1904…It was a rainy day, but still was met with great fanfare, floats, banners and a healthy crowd.
Hundreds of men were employed to lay railroad tracks to Brownville then west from Harlingen to Sam Fordyce.
The San Juan to Edinburg line came a few years later after Edinburg was established as the Hidalgo County seat.
Stay tune for the next column when the train come to town…
Rene Torres
The train's whistle is loud: you can hear it in early morning, at noon etc when the City is quiet.
