THE RATTLER COMES TO BROWNSVILLE: STAY TUNED FOR THE ST. LOUIS, BROWNSVILLE AND MEXICO RAILROAD OF 1904!!

St Louis, Brownsville, Mexico Railroad arrives in Brownsville on July 4, 1904…It
was a rainy day, but still was met with great fanfare, floats, banners and a healthy crowd.

Hundreds of men were employed to lay railroad tracks to Brownville then west from Harlingen to Sam Fordyce.

The San Juan to Edinburg line came a few years later after Edinburg was established as the Hidalgo County seat.

Stay tune for the next column when the train come to town…

  1. The train's whistle is loud: you can hear it in early morning, at noon etc when the City is quiet.
