REFUGEES, ASYLUM SEEKERS, IMMIGRANTS; DEFINING TERMS FOR FURTHER DISCUSSION

Jim, how come you never write about the border crisis. Illegals coming in, open borders, democrats wanting school children to wear masks yet illegals can come in with Covid, etc. Why not? No interest in that? Write about. Tell us who you think is to blame. Or maybe you're okay and agree with it. No liberals want to talk about that. Use facts if you can.

;

Thanks for the challenge.  You've used a few buzz words; "open borders, border crisis, illegals with covid," etc., but I'm OK with that.

I'm sure it will disappoint that I can't give a one paragraph or even one article response as the subject is broader than that.

Defining terms and phrases like refugee, asylum seeker, immigrant and economic immigrant is critical.  I'm not going to quibble over or distinguish between "undocumented" or "illegal" immigrants as both terms are correct.

A refugee is someone who, while still living in their home country, appeals to another country to allow entry as a protection from persecution, violence or murder.

The refugee's appeal to another country may take years to process.  Meanwhile, the individual likely remains in a refugee camp under substandard conditions.

Refugee Albert Einstein

Previous refugees who emigrated to the U.S. include Google co-founder Sergey Brin, video game originator Ralph Baer, Sriracha creator David Tran and scientist/mathematician Albert Einstein.

Our country has traditionally and universally welcomed refugees.

Currently in the world are approximately 80,000,000 men, women and children fleeing war, persecution and political turmoil as refugees.

An asylum seeker is someone who leaves their home country and enters another to plead for relief from religious persecution, violence or threat of murder.

Asylum is no longer allowed on economic grounds, that is because of not being able to make a living or support a family.

Over 500,000 were permitted to emigrate from Ireland to the United States between the years of 1846 to 1851 to escape the starvation and disease of that country's potato famine.

Under 1967 United Nations Protocol and U.S. Immigration Law, the United States must accommodate asylum seekers who qualify.

Actually, I've spent much of the day ruminating about my own history as the grandchild and great-great grandchild of two immigrants and I will share some of that in the next article.

  1. So is their a border crisis? Is it Trump's fault? Is what is happening good for our country? Is this causing Covid to spread? Who's going to feed, clothe, house, etc. all these people?

    1. They're coming and have always come because of the meddling in Central America by the USA. Ollie North ring a bell? Eugene Hasenfus? Manuel Noriega, like Saddam Hussein, was once our great ally. But, hey, go and cuck yourself and see if that clears your head. Idiot.

    2. Why can't you answer the question? Resort to name calling instead. Very mature.

    3. Call me names if you want but why can't this person answer the questions asked?

    5. So I guess this means you can't or won't answer my questions right? Facts are hard.

    6. "Eat Mexican shit"
That a racist remark. Why not just "eat shit"? Why do you have to make it racist. It's like saying "eat black shit", "eat white shit" or "eat gay shit".

    7. "eat Mexican shit" is the wit and wisdom of Duardo Paz-Martinez, failed blogger from dingy McAllen

  2. In a world where Republicans really, I mean really want to stop illegal immigration, ICE would raid meat packing plants, car washes, construction sites, dairy and farm fields all over the state every day. We all know where "illegals" go: to work for Republican-owned rural agriculture facilities, picking fruit, butchering cows, packing meat, shipping food products.

These raids would deport Republican's own workforce.
    They won't do that.
Those facilities are owned by Republicans who donate to the GOP.
GOP protects their donors who hire illegals, by focusing on the "border wall".
Illegal immigration and underpaid labor is highly profitable to the GOP machine, as was slavery, the predecessor of this system.
You can tell they love it by the Confederate flags they are so fond of.

    1. Following your logic only Republicans own businesses so all Democrats are employed by Republicans. At least the ones that do work. Sure makes sense. I'm assuming you don't own a business. I also assume that you work for a Republican or you don't work because you can't find a job, you're disabled or because of racism.
