ABBOTT CLINGS TO COVID MACHISMO WHILE SCHOOL KIDS GET EXPOSED

Governor Greg Abbott does not want to look like a covid wimp. He's still holding on to his poorly-thought-out ban on mask mandates just as kids are going back to school.

At least Republican Governor Asa Hutchinson of Arkansas was man enough to rethink his state's similar ban, recognizing that with the resurgence of infections, along with Delta and other variants, "things have changed."

Dallas Superintendent Michael Hinojosa

Dallas Independent School District Superintendent Michael Hinojosa is also demonstrating leadership, the first Texas school district to defy Abbott's ban, choosing instead to protect students, teachers and employees of his district.

“We’re in a situation that has gotten significantly more urgent,” Hinojosa said.

Houston, we've heard, will be next.

Brownsville Independent School District, opening its school doors to students August 17, has said nothing about requiring masks.

But Abbott, like the bombastic Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida, is more worried about looking like a sissy to Donald Trump by cowing down to the CDC than protecting our school kids.

Meanwhile, Florida has become the epicenter of the pandemic while Texas has a sharp upturn in cases.

It's been reported that vaccines may be available to the under 12 group as early as November, but that offers zero protection to grades K-6 for August, September and October.

The risk of infection includes the parents of these unvaccinated school children as recent experiences at a summer camp demonstrated.

So, while the spineless Greg Abbott thinks he's showing Donald Trump he's not a covid wuss, our school kids and their parents will pay the price.

  1. Abbott is not a true conservative. Otherwise, he would favor local control of such matters.

  2. Abbott is giving YOU a choice. You can still wear a mask if you want they just can't force you. I can make my own decisions for myself and my family. Some people can't and don't want to.

    1. I'm certain that sounds logical and fair to you, but what you're overlooking is the tremendous risk of the unmasked spreading variants of this virus and infecting many more. This is not a personal liberty issue as much as it is a global health issue. This is a serious pandemic not a time for political posturing.

What about all the illegals coming in bringing Covid?

  3. They aren't fetuses, so 'pro-life' Abbott is ok with kids dying.
