COMMENTS THAT SLIPPED PAST THE EDITOR

From the editor:  The pictures on this blog are not accidental, usually selected carefully, giving preference to my own shots, however amateurish, as I know why something caught my eye.

While many comments are rejected, a few go through, even some critical of me or those I respect.  They become tools that pave the way for response.

Re-publishing a few noteworthy comments creates another opportunity for discussion:

First, a comment on Trump's racism:

Trump may be a fool, but that doesn’t make him an ineffective racist. That would presuppose that it takes great talent to be good at hating people and furthering that hatred through policy. Donald Trump is quite adept at finding America’s weaknesses, a trait he shares with the Russians who helped him win the election. Both his White House and the Kremlin know just where to look first: America’s persistent racism. It is always easier to find holes in the boat and to punch new ones, than to devise methods for plugging them and keeping everything afloat.
One such weakness is the Census, which this administration has sought to weaponize as an undocumented immigrant address book for ICE and, as a consequence, a way to erode Hispanic and Latinx influence at the ballot box. We knew that the Trump administration’s proposed citizenship question for the 2020 Census was racist. But the ACLU revealed Thursday new proof that the question, which the group is now challenging before the Supreme Court, was explicitly crafted with the purpose of helping white people become more politically powerful.

Now, some thoughts on persistent self-loathing:

someday you will tire of your obsession with this blog. your stuff is irrelevant because you simply don't know the people you "write" about, basing your impression only on whether or not they respond to your shrill inquiries. . . if they ignore you, as they should, you denigrate them, hoping they will see you as somehow relevant. . it's a loser's game, but you've been playing it a long time now. . . Jerry refers to you as "pinche DPM," but that's just a façade. he wants you to succeed, but doesn't embrace your psychological baggage or understand it. . you're in a similar place to the captain, vulnerable and needy, but no one reaches out to you because you've nothing to offer. . . .your mom I respect but she would not be happy now because her son is not happy

On the city commission, BISD and violations of the Texas Open Meetings Act:

The sad part about yesterday is nothing will change. I can assure you BISD and every other elective entity are violating TOMA as I type. But I will say the Herald's headline this morning really hurt the city.

I am 100% sure Republic will pull out of the deal. They do not want a national headline and the deal with Art Kalifa and George Tetreau going public. It will mean every elective entity will have to review their contract with Republic.

If this city commission were smart they would immediately offer GMS their attorney's fees and vote on the 2016, contract. But they are not smart. They will leave it to the new city commission. If they do the first order of business should be to fire Navarro, find a way to get Republic to withdraw by telling them because of their relationship with Tetreau they will have to do a discovery lawsuit before their bid can be considered. Once Republic is out of it, it is just a matter of paying GMS's attorneys fees and we are done.
Another TOMA lawsuit against the city will automatically go to Judge Pate - and remember what he said, he knows Brownsville.

About respecting women:

Mr, Barton ,
Thank you for always.being a gentleman in regards to respect for the ladies.
You never attack our beautiful Brownsville ladies.
I still ask myself how can female candidates advertise in a blog that trashes
and demeans women. That really says a lot about them.
Please continue doing what you do and ignore those two heathen bloggers.
No one takes them seriously. You and Juanito Montoya are tops.
Many blessings to you and your beloved bride to be.

On the mayoral election:

Yes the polls must have shown Tony was lagging, and sure enough, on election day he didn't place first. Desperation and doubt must have set in.

Although, I think Tony killed his chances of getting Charlie Cabler's support with that final dagger-in-the-back mailout attacking Charlie and the ambulances.

All of this was predicted in a comment in April btw. Charlie will now turn his support over to Trey, I'm guessing. Also now that Trey has seen how Tony plays dirty, there's nothing to stop him from taking the gloves off in the final mano a mano runoff round.

Maybe Charlie will offer to sponsor some attack ads on Tony as his final bow.

And Tony, desperate, could go all in with the politiqueras to drum up some much needed numbers.

  2. Trump is dragging the good name of America through the mud. IMposing tariffs for political reasons is a clear violation of WTO rules, and retaliating against Mexico weeks after renegotiating NAFTA 1.2 is directly throwing sand in the face of a valuable economy ally.

Who can ever negotiate a deal with the US again without worrying about it being undercut a week later?
