MAYORAL FORUM CONTRASTS OLD VS NEW, MAYOR MARTINEZ THROWS SUCKER PUNCH

AARP Mayoral Candidate Forum

Yes, Brownsville has had an ungodly amount of campaign forums, but, if New York is the city that never sleeps, Brownsville is the city where no one votes, so bring on the forums, podcasts and commentary until we get something resembling participatory Democracy here!

Almost like the NCAA Basketball Tournament, this campaign season in Brownsville is a grueling test of endurance, commitment and skill.  If your work schedule and skill set makes you  consistently miss or shy away from forums, do you have what it takes to be mayor or city commissioner?

This evening's AARP/CBS 4 Mayoral Candidate Forum, the most professionally run to date, split the three candidates into two camps.

If you feel Brownsville's leadership for the last few years has been adequate to great, perhaps the eight year incumbent, Tony Martinez, or longtime City Manager Charlie Cabler is your man.

On the other hand, if you feel the city needs new leadership, even a new direction, Trey Mendez is making himself available.

Mayor Martinez, uncharacteristically angry, used his final two minute sum up to throw a vicious sucker punch at Mendez.

"Action speaks louder than words," the mayor kept repeating, reminding voters that terminated TSC President Lily Tercero had been awarded a $13.1 judgement against the college, putting the blame squarely on Trey Mendez, a TSC trustee.

Mendez, already having used up his time, could not respond.

The threesome is scheduled to appear together one last time before the election on the Whine with Cheez podcast live streamed from Angelita's Casa de Cafe Sunday, April 28 @ 1:30 PM.

  1. It’s true. Trey has cost us a lot of money. For his amateur decisions. Not a good thing for someone that’s running for mayor. Maybe next time trey. You will need to proof to our city that you are better than that. And by you saying you will do it again if you had to is just not going to work out for you. Sorry amigo maybe in a few years. Stick to your pizza joint.

    1. I think you have been drinking something 100% proof. The word you should have used is "prove". Post another comment and "prove" you can write at a minimum of at least a fifth grade level.
And please please proofread your comment before submitting it.

  2. Trey is just a puppet that Adela Garza controls. We suggest you stick to your pizza joint. Cause from what we hear you are not that good of a lawyer ether. Sorry trey just not fit for this yet.

    1. Ether? Ether is colorless volatile liquid that is highly flammable. It is used as an anesthetic and as a solvent or intermediate in industrial processes. Either, the word you should have used is "either".

  3. “Last time Trey tried to replace a leader, it cost taxpayers $13.1 million”.... OUCH

Was undecided but now going for Tony

    REELECT TONY MARTINEZ!

    1. It seems to me many of the mayor's supporters are both gullible and functionally illiterate.
The only mayoral candidate worthy of my vote is Trey Mendez. If all three candidates appear on Erasmo Castro's podcast next Sunday, that show is going to be one volatile exhibition of "¿Quiรฉn es mรกs macho?" I'll be sure to be watching that one.

  4. IMO it's fair to say all three are insufficient leaders.

  8. When the mayor lost his composure, I really thought he was going to cry. It was sad to watch, but oddly satisfying. No money has been paid out in the TSC lawsuit. It is being appealed. Too bad no one could bring up Casa del Nylon or any of the many other questionable payouts that have occurred during the last eight years like the "banner" and
that amateurish new city logo that we don't even use. Both Cabler and the mayor have had their chance to help the city progress. They did not do much for the city as much as they did for themselves. Brownsville needs new leadership.Brownsville needs Trey Mendez.

    1. Oh, go ram that shit back up your lard-ass, Bozo. TSC will pay and it won't be peanuts. And Casa del Nylon will also pay-of, you goddamned fool!

    2. You're the fool, an ignorant foul mouthed one at that.
Pay-of? I suggest you take remedial
      courses at TSC.

    3. Such foul language. Did I strike a nerve? Sometimes the truth is painful. I believe you could benefit from adult remedial classes at TSC as well as anger management. I stand by my original statement. Trey Mendez is the only option we have if the city is to move into the 21st century.

  9. Martinez has hired an army of Trolls from Austin. Funny the first 3 comments are at 10:30, 10:33 and 10:37. They don't even know how to do their job right.

Please Tony, stop lying to us. We know what you did and what you will do. No more.

  10. Martinez always goes for the sucker punch, did anyone expect him not to? He did the same to Pat Ahumada in that election, mailing out a postcard to all the city with the handcuffs and the mugshot. And he won. Man, know your enemy, this dude doesn't play nice, he plays to win, its his closing argument last chance to strike a home run. On the flipside, Martinez must have polling data showing Trey is in the lead or else he woudln't bother going for the jugular. He would instead be acting extra nice to Trey now, assuming Trey is coming in 3rd, to butter up Trey with plans to ask for his support in the runoff.

  11. F all of you! Trey could have had my vote but he allied himself with that CORRUPT POS Luis Saenz so rhat sats enough to me to run in another direction. Voting for Charlie

  12. Would have considered voting for Trey in a Cabler vs Mendez runoff, but his endorsement from Saenz is a BIG NO-NO for my family and I .
