"From everyone to whom much has been given, much will be required."
Luke 12:48.
Carlos Cascos |
Carlos Cascos, the elder statesman of the local Republican Party, is articulate enough to publicly separate himself from Trump racism, condemning it, while enumerating the reasons he believes his party's policies benefit the local population, overwhelmingly Hispanic.
Some Republican leader, somewhere in this country WILL have the intestinal fortitude to publicly call out Trump's obvious racism. That public stance may not bear immediate political benefit, but will be historical.
Trump is not simply a racist, but an intellectual klutz, a non-thinker who pushes stereotypes, not facts. Event Trump's attempt to deny and explain his "shithole" comments displays ignorance:
Does Trump even know WHY Haiti is so poor?
Does he realize Haiti was started as a French slave colony, greatly enriching France during the 1700's?
France raped Haiti, its people and its natural resources.
Then, in 1801, when the slaves of Haiti revolted, seeking independence, France demanded huge compensation for all their "help" in exchange for freedom.
The U.S. joined in that huge extortion, fearing that merely granting Haitian slaves freedom, without a nearly impossible ransom, would send the wrong message to American slaves, inciting them to seek similar freedom.
Subsequently, the U.S. commenced to occupy Haiti for three decades.
Today, Trump will likely read from a teleprompter, a speech someone else has written, honoring Dr. Martin Luther King.
Hypocrite!
