Is Free Speech Being Stifled, Stymied and Squelched Within the Cameron County Republican Party?

"And now my father put a heavy yoke upon you,
but I will add to your yoke:
my father beat you with whips,
but I will beat you with scorpions."

1 Kings 12:11
Catholic Douay Version

Former and Current Republican County Chairs
Frank Morris and Morgan Graham
If local Republicans chaffed under the long, controlling tenure of former county chair Frank Morris, the charisma and apparent inclusiveness of his successor, Morgan Graham, was novos spiritus auras, the proverbial breath of fresh air.

Political advocates, like children, thrive when personal growth, creativity and free speech is encouraged, not stifled. Arguments and disagreements about issues and candidates are welcomed, leading to diversity as opposed to homogenization.

Yet, comments to this blog, likely from county Republicans, suggest a vice grip of control again being applied to party members, even precinct chairs, who want to exercise free speech to endorse candidates.

One commenter, claiming to be a supporter of Eric Garza for the Texas State Board of Education, as well as a precinct chair, states:
"Not true. I’m a precinct chair. I want to endorse him, but Morgan (the county chair) says we aren’t allowed."

Another commenter defends the county chair, claiming she did not forbid candidate endorsements by  precinct chairs, just stated that they were "unwise," unless preceded by that precinct chair first "polling" the voters in their precinct:

"She said it is unwise unless you’ve polled voters in your precinct dumbass. “Not allowed” and “fucking idiotic” are not always the same thing."

Another commenter gets directly to the point:

"Who is going to poll voters, Morgan? Does Trump or Abbott or Cascos poll voters before they endorse? You won’t let precinct chairs endorse because you are a control freak."

With the country rapidly moving away from constitutional values under Trump, is the Cameron County Republican Party doing the same?

ADDENDUM:  Elizabeth Dierlam, a Cameron County Precinct Chair, has just verified that precinct chairs are "not allowed" to endorse candidates in Cameron County, Texas.

  1. Elizabeth is a known Eric Garza supporter among the Party structure. It was probably her who posted the comment.

    1. Yeah, she comes out and just says stuff instead of hiding behind the Great Wall of Alex. The Cone of Silence was thrown out when she was sworn in and people can now record meetings that are finally open to the public. It’s awful because people know what the hell and why the hell things are happening. Holy shit it’s not Russia any more and it sucks. Next thing you know she’ll be inviting Roman Perez to meetings because she’s over it and he isn’t.

  4. Cascos and Trump and all these other people didn’t run for party office to represent precinct primary voters. It just sounds like people like Dierlam want to have their cake and eat it too. Morgan has to protect self destructive half wits like Dierlam (who Frank Morris wouldn’t even allow to be a precinct chair or work elections) from hurting themselves worse than they already do. She’s been inclusive and she’s had to be firm and for the first time in a long time everybody is able to be in the same room without needing to call the state party’s attorneys on eachother.

The far right wing just can’t stand a younger female in charge who won’t let their extreme rhetoric run the the show. She’s too Hispanic friendly, too laissez-faire with the gays, too socially libertarian and too balanced. That common sense rubs the far right the wrong way.

  5. Morgan believes if you represent more voters than a precinct you don’t need to poll to endorse. What is good enough for Cascos isn’t good enough for a precinct chair.

    1. She should just openly endorse Tad and be done with it. She’s an SREC and can and already is doing things to help him. Cascos isn’t running to represent as a party officer but she is and so are all these other precinct chairs so why isn’t she just openly admitting that she’s in it for Hass?

    2. It’s no secret that Tad is in daily contact with Morgan. One day soon there will be a reckoning for madam Chair.

    3. Isn’t it their job to be? He’s the chief of staff or something.

    4. Tad is a party officer. You wouldn’t understand that, Eric. You’re a Libertarian from Hidalgo. Capitalize “madam” next time. Dipshit.

  6. I haven't seen cascos endorse anyone in a contested primary race, which is what is being discussed here, or is something missing?

  9. A county chair runs the election. They are the chief election officer of a primary.

A precinct chair is not the chief election officer or administrator in the county or precinct. A precinct chair can be the election judge but their is no rule or law that they must be part of the election as an election worker.

A precinct chair should be able to endorse.

That’s bull shit from Morgan that precinct chair should not endorse in the primary.

    Eric Garza for SBOE

    1. Yeah, the CHIEF election officer. Which means there are lesser officers right? The same people who are precinct chairs. You just made her point.

  13. Lmao those of you supporting Eric must not know him. He's about as smart as a donkey. He claims to have won already because of his relation to another supposed Republican Adela "Cara de Abuela" Garza. She's already making calls asking for support. Screw you Adela and your fanny licking nephew too.

    2. This person knows Eric. I too can attest he is not very bright. Went to high school with him and I can honestly say that if it wasn't for daddy's business, he wouldn't even be being discussed.
