One or our readers commented on our reported rumor of the possibility of Fiesta Supermarkets placing a store in the current K-Mart location at Sunrise Mall. A poster named German Vega claimed that is was Soriana, not Fiesta, that would put a store at that location.
We went back and checked with our original source, who admitted he'd gotten the names transposed. He says: "Yes, it was Soriana, not Fiesta, taking that spot."
That seems more credible since Soriana has stores just across the border in Matamoros, Monterey and other cities, whereas the closest Fiesta warehouse is over 300 miles to the north.
Of course, negotiations break down and plans fall through. A few months ago this blog reported that Kirklands, a home furnishings outlet, planned to locate next to Staples. That report was based on now retired City Permit Officer Ernesto Gamez statement to the GBIC about permits issued for new businesses.

ReplyDeleteWhyin hell would they allow a store like that tied to the mall . Those people shopping there are only going to trash the mall even more.... Wow! This store should stand alone by closer to amigoland area. Didn't Sunrise mall just go through a revonation.
