    Students were upset with how Bailey and others disregarded surveys, one of which that asked participants to choose between the phoenix, vaquero, green jay, storm mighty, or none of the above – the vaquero received about 14 percent of total votes while 45 percent chose none of the above. The second highest option was the phoenix with 21 percent of the votes.

    “We voted. If there was no point and they weren’t going to count our vote, then why even have a survey in the first place,” said Jasmine Urbina, 22, a junior biology major at UTPA. BH today

  5. The Mayor has to have violated the Texas Open Meetings Act by talking to all his commissioners outside of the meetings about this issue in order to get his desired outcome when they voted. The Mayor believes the Texas Open Meetings Act does not apply to him. At this point he is above the law because the DA will not go after him for this violation.
