Commissioner Deborah Portillo |
I found the page and immediately got his point.
"That's horrible!" I said. "How hypocritical!"
Young Deb was encouraging her Facebook audience to access a website, brand-Brownsville.com, doing so by November 15. Well, here's the full statement from Portillo:
Addendum:
"I am so excited to see one of my projects come to fruition! Please, if you have not already, go to brand-Brownsville.com by November 15 and give us your feedback. We want this rebranding to be as inclusive as possible and a true representation of our wonderful community and all we have to offer. Comments/suggestions about our city website, logo, and everything else you feel needs improvement, would be greatly appreciated. Please take the time to complete this survey because without your insight, we won't be able to provide our constituents with the level of service they expect and deserve!"
Let's see, Debbie. Where do I start? These are nice platitudes you've expressed, but your performance as City Commissioner is the EXACT OPPOSITE of the pretty words.
Debbie, we just had the most important town hall meeting Brownsville has had in years. You did not have enough respect for the 300 citizens who came to even show your face. You likely have ZERO knowledge of how they feel about the sale of Lincoln Park far below its actual value to the mega-rich University of Texas system. Just to clue you in, they're 100% against it, but you CHOSE to not listen to their voices, let alone understand their reasons.
A thousand websites will not undue your public image as an unresponsive, unavailable, inexperienced commissioner. All the Carlos Marin or Tony Martinez financial support you may expect will not erase that public perception.
Inclusion? That's laughable! You want our feedback? Since when? Our comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated? Yeah, right.
Debbie. You read a nice statement at a commission meeting a few weeks ago. Whether or not those were your words, it took courage to even read them.
But, you're not a commissioner of the people. Not yet. The citizens of Brownsville clearly spoke at the town hall meeting, but you were not listening. The four of you voting against the obvious wishes of the people betrayed them.

"Self Awareness is having a clear perception of your personality, including strengths, weaknesses, thoughts, beliefs, motivation, and emotions. Self Awareness allows you to understand other people, how they perceive you, your attitude and your responses to them in the moment." (Quote from Pathways to Happiness website)
Jim, it perplexes me to try and understand why this moron is trying to "poll" us taxpayers about what we care about. My entire family will NEVER vote for her again because she didn't even have the nerve to poll my nephew about he felt when this bitch sold his park at a bargain discounted rate!
ReplyDeleteYou still do not k now that hypocrisy is a part of public service. Why push the fairy tale, Barton?
ReplyDeletePortillo is just part of a much larger problem.
ReplyDelete“We could in reality be poorer in the future, by 2050, than we are now,” Murdock said.
It’s related to socioeconomic issues that attend the huge growth in the Hispanic population, which is happening not just in Texas and California but across the United States. BH today
Long after Debbie is gone from office her family will be dealing with the shame her actions put them thru.....a hypocritical puppet is all she ever has been.....how does it feel Debbie to know you were played for a fool by Gowen and the mayor?...pobre mensa!
ReplyDeleteUS citizen, pregnant school girl shot in Reynosa. http://www.jornada.unam.mx/ultimas/2014/11/11/policias-en-reynosa-hieren-a-menor-estadunidense-4283.html
The survey on brand-brownsville.com is one of the most amateurish efforts at polling that I have ever seen. Looks as though it was produced by a bunch of high school students. Did someone pay Hahn Public Communications for this inept effort? This is nothing more than an attempt to promote BCIC and BEDC waste. Asking What do we want to be known for?” and “How can we distinguish ourselves as a city? - really! We already have a brand and are already distinguished as the poorest city in the USA with some of the lowest education levels anywhere!
ReplyDeleteHow lame is the open ended question: What are your three favorite things to do in Brownsville?
"The project includes research, messaging, identity and creative phases. Final deliverables will include a new logo and tagline, as well as a brand standards guide and marketing plan to attract tourism and economic development opportunities to Brownsville." Hasn't this been done before with various price tags attached? How much will these "deliverables" cost? All this gobbledigook would be hilarious if it did not promote more theft from public coffers.
And we paid big bucks, as usual, for this crap! Our local third graders could have put together a better survey, as an assignment, and wouldn't have cost us anything.
DeleteJim, I was actually going to defend her on her Facebook post where people said insulting crap about her until I saw the insulting comments her family is making about us people who were in suport of lincon park. Now that's a story!
