The Cameron Hotel |
Some downtowners blame recently-departed Planning Director Ben Medina with the bureaucratic quagmire stifling the access to these funds. In any event, the Cameron Motor Hotel, the Half Moon Saloon and the Puente Art Studio have recently taken advantage of the funding for exterior cosmetic improvements.
While the thrust of the Cameron's advertising seems aimed at businessmen south of the border, it has become known in recent years as a sort of Hemingway hideaway for respected Brownsville blogger Jerry Mchale. The remodeled hotel boasts ground level and across-the-street parking.

the Cameron hotel façade is way overdue. thankfully, they got rid of the brown trim. why is it that almost every building in downtown has to have brown trim? is it because we live in brown-sville? the building looks nice. now the other pic for the gallery is kind of a disappointment. the brickwork along the parapet is completely plain. most of our old buildings have some kind of brick design along the top. most of our older buildings also have multiple shuttered doors as opposed to windows. and those doors rarely have arches on top of them. now the old windows do have arches when they occur. I am not an architect. i'm just observant and appreciative of our downtown buildings. hopefully the people in power to facilitate these dollars are also observant of our old architecture
ReplyDeletewhy doesn't the city put some of those funds into the stegman building which they purchased? it is hideous. they should be setting the example. at least fix the broken windows guys. a fresh paint job with white window trim would be nice too.
ReplyDeleteGreat, now the whores have freshly painted building to bring the Johns in. Pfffff.
ReplyDeleteWhores deserve fresh paint too. There are whores in the best hotels/motels in town....they are just trying to make a buck. Why don't we get the DA to start raiding them too....oh, yeah, he is too busy with his race horse.
ReplyDeleteIsn't that hotel owned by Luigi Christiano's family?
