This blog, Mean Mister Brownsville, described another kind of theft in a March article:
"We pay a district attorney handsomely in Cameron County to fight corruption, but like the cowardly lion in the Wizard of Oz, Armando Villalobos never had the courage. He deferred, stepped over, ignored the rampant political corruption in the county so as not to antagonize any segment of political support as he used the district attorney's office to launch his campaign for yet higher office."
So, the fact that Mr. Villalobos simply didn't do his job in his years as District Attorney is a theft, a net loss from the taxpayers of Cameron County who paid for those services. Again, a quote from the MMB March article:
Early into Villalobos' campaign for Congress, I was told by a spouse of a staff member that a portion of the DA staff were working up to 32 hours of their 40 hour work week on the congressional campaign. If that is true, that is a theft of services paid for by Cameron County taxpayers. Again, that includes the air-conditioned offices we pay for, the transportation we provide, the internet service, etc.
Ironically, on the day of Villalobos indictment, as Armando left the Cameron County Courthouse, he was greeted by a "spontaneous" cluster of staff, wearing "Villalobos for Congress" orange t-shirts. This was still during the workday so it can be assumed many of these staffers were on the clock. The support for their boss on one of his worst days was touching on some levels, but not what we pay these county employees for. If it was done on the clock, it was a theft of wage dollars from us.
It's not difficult to understand why Armando would have some interest in the just finished, two week long Ray Marchan trial. His name came up repeatedly during the trial and he will likely face a similar trial soon. Armando was observed as a spectator several days, along with his partner Eddie Lucio. After the Marchan trial, Villalobos released a 25 page rebuttal, or at least challenge to his indictment. So, was the trial observation done while we were paying Villalobos for District Attorney work? Unless he took vacation days to use for trial observation, it was. When was the 25 page rebuttal prepared? During the wee hours of the morning after Villalobos finished a hard work day prosecuting, researching and preparing cases as DA or during the workday at the office we pay for, furnish and provide utitlities? If it was the latter, it was a continuance of Villalobos pattern of stealing taxpayer dollars.
He also proposed to give to the daughter of his attorney in the federal case the job as "Appointed Special Prosectuor for Cameron County on "white collar crimes" (while on maternity leave). To get over $70,000.00. Nice way to pay his defense attorney's fee by giving the job to the daughter. Red flags.
ReplyDeleteJohn Blaylock's daughter? was being given this appt. w/in the D.A.? plz..spare us more CORRUPTION...John is looking for problems just as well as his newly found clients...and since when did he go to school to be labeled "A LEGAL ANALYST" does he have his resume handy for the public view? DOUBT IT..he just a plain jane attorney and think he really is part of the Valley..if he only would look in the mirror..he needs to shave and comb his hair sometime...when he not looking down his nose..get the pic?
DeleteI believe it is Stephanie Rollins, daughter to his other local attorney Mr. Norton Colvin. Not John Blaylock's daughter.
DeleteHas anyone at the DA's office looked into Erni Hernandez's brother in law job where a woman took the test for him? Erni is small potatoes but still when you spray for cockroaches you want the small one's as well as the big one's.
ReplyDeleteI messaged Villallobos about this months ago. At the time it was in the hands of the BPD. He said it hadn't been fully investigated yet. After 30 days of dillydallying, the BPD said it was not in their jurisdiction. None of local law enforcement want to touch this. They know things. Ernie knows things. They're all entwined. Certainly, the DA's office now is only interested in survival.

ReplyDeleteCorruption? Here in Cameron County all the Judges at Cameron County Courthouse were elected with a wise plan thought up by one of their own Judges. He dresses sharp and keeps a low profile. Well this thin quiet man is believed to be the one that obtained the book of all registered Cameron County voters and studied who had not voted for the past several years. Well it is said that new voter cards were made for these non-voting registered voters and people were paid to go out and vote with these new fraudulently made voter registration cards. I mean when someone mails in a request for a replacement card to a new address; who checks that it is the owner of the identity that is making the request? NO ONE! Well if we stop and think about the photo ID card requirement we can now understand why Cameron County does not want people to be required to present photo ID before they can vote. They want people be able to vote using only a voter registration card. "No Photo" on the voter registration cards. Cameron County Judges and elected officials here should be ashamed of this practice! Oh Well....................
