If you ever find yourself wandering the humid streets of CuliacΓ‘n on a sweltering June morning and stumble across a body near a high school, just meters from algebra and adolescent heartbreak, you might want to read the note left beside it before calling the authorities. It's not every day someone leaves behind a cardboard message written in all-caps anger and Sharpie fumes.
The sign, scrawled with the fervor of someone who has both a personal vendetta and a poor relationship with punctuation, read something to the effect of:
WORKERS I WILL KICK YOUR ASS
AND ALL THE DRUG PUSHERS
SINCERELY: THE TATOOED ONE(EL TATUADO) MF
CULIACΓN HAS AN OWNER – EL TATUADO/MF"
A thoughtful sign-off, really, equal parts rage, brand management, and local real estate claim.
The man behind the message is one Jeffrey AvendaΓ±o, also known by names that sound like rejected Instagram handles: El Tatuado, El 21, El Jeffrey. He used to work with Los Chapitos, yes, those Chapitos, but has since switched allegiances like a scorned reality show contestant, now fighting for the Fuerzas Especiales AvendaΓ±o (FEA), currently aligned with the La Mayiza-Guasave Cartel.
On June 18, he allegedly shot a La Chapiza member at point-blank range, because subtlety isn’t really the FEA aesthetic, and then, a full eight days later, decided to publish his own PR campaign on Telegram. Think of it as a delayed newsletter, except instead of stock tips or cookie recipes, it featured corpse photography and a threatening note.
The timing is important: the video went live on June 26, but the actual murder happened on June 18. In the world of organized crime, deadlines, much like the living, are apparently negotiable.
As for the high school students nearby, I imagine they learned more about power, violence, and branding than they ever would in civics class.
