When I think of the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), I think of Fred Rogers, that is, Mr. Rogers of Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood.

If anyone should kill the Public Broadcasting Service, the free, public network that gave us Fred Rogers, it should have been Donald Trump.

Fred Rogers was the antithesis of Donald Trump.  Mr. Rogers was everything Donald Trump was not and vice versa.

Mr. Rogers taught children about empathy, kindness, and the importance of respecting others, and he encouraged them to share their feelings and listen to others. He also emphasized the value of self-love and the importance of understanding that everyone is unique.

Donald Trump grew up being self-centered, only concerned about his own perceived needs, oblivious to everyone else.  He mocked the handicapped, made fun of the poor, tried to destroy those of other races and ethnicities.

Fred Rogers showed us how to consider others' feelings and perspectives, encouraging us to help others and be kind.  He taught us that it's okay to have different feelings and important to acknowledge and share them.

Donald Trump showed us how to blame others for our failings and to take credit for anything good that happens.  Just recently, Trump told us:  "Everything that is bad in the economy came from Joe Biden.  All the good in the economy is from Trump."

Mr. Rogers taught forgiveness, but now we're watching Donald Trump use his second term in office for vengeance and retribution.

"Listen to others, not just with your ears, but with your hearts and eyes," Fred Rogers taught us.

He showed children how to treat everyone with kindness and respect, regardless of their differences.

Mostly, Mr. Rogers taught us that difficult times will pass and there is always hope for better days.
