At most institutions of higher learning, as well corporations, hiring top talent, especially to replace a college Vice-President would be of the essence, critical, vital, yes, mandatory.
What top flight, college, university or business seeking the very best in candidates would not advertise such an important position, clearly enumerating the necessary credentials, background, experience and training requirements?
But, not Texas Southmost College!
TSC's modus operandi is to NOT go national as if seeking the very best, but limit their fishing/hiring to the local fish bowl, the same incestuous hiring technique they've used by recycling administrators from Houston Community College as in Tom Tynan, Jesus Rodriguez and outgoing VP Kyle.
Richard Mesquias |
Now, we've just learned that their new Vice President will be one Richard Mesquias, who has served for the past six years as Senior Field Development Officer for Texas State Technical College of Harlingen.
Mesquias is said to have had a close association with the TSTC Foundation and is, thus, a "money man," someone proficient in seeking donations.
We've no idea why the Hell or ha.des TSC eschews a national search for their institution's second most important officer, but administration inbreeding does tend to preserve the status quo, stifling a fresh look or new approach to how things are done.
If the community college did advertise the job on the TSC website, we apologize for not noticing, but, then again, what qualified applicant from Dallas, NYC or Seattle would look for work on a TSC website?
