IS RANCHO VIEJO INFECTED WITH THE COMPADRISMO VIRUS?

The ugly local tradition of compadrismo, that is when government or corporate entities unlevel the playing field by ignoring those applicants for a position who have stood in line, filled out the forms, furnished the resume's and met the criteria in favor of cronies, friends or contributors.

The end product of compradrismo is typically mediocrity in job performance and disillusionment for those who played by the rules.

Alderman David Tumlinson IV
A report indicates that Rancho Viejo, the affluent little town between Brownsville and Harlingen, may be going down this road in its search for a new police chief.

We've been told that an original field of 33 applicants has been pared down to 10 finalists for interview after being vetted by local police chiefs, only to have that process circumvented by Alderman David Tumlinson IV, who has introduced an 11th candidate, former Brownsville Police Department employee Robert Tyler.

Former BPD Officer Robert Tyler
Tyler, said to have zero investigative or administrative experience, is now said to be the heir apparent, reportedly even offering positions in what will become his department.

Say it isn't so, Rancho Viejo!

    1. Here we go! This bears all the signs of a cop about ready to go very very bad and in a dangerous way! Compadrismo is just another deadly virus as we all know and it is rampant at every level of our government. We desperately need a dam REVOLUTION in this country and I'm hoping it's about ready to happen!

  2. Robert is a bigot and has been known to make racist comments. He likes to hang out with the big boys like Neto Gamez and Rene Cardenas amd brags about his connections. Those two connections should tell you alot. He is also good buddies with Alderman Tumlinson. Tumlinson is part of all kinds of boards, but he is worthless, spineless and scared of his shadow. He has kissed the right asses and has not put in an honest days work in his life. We have heard that our other alternative for our town chief is the washed up and disgraced ex Brownsville chief rodriguez. He left that department in shambles and lacked the respect of his own cops. Now he wants to come over here to kiss ass and make an easy living. We have no hope.

Where do the commissioners stand on this atrocity? Or are, they too, involved in the shenanigans?

Capitalism and it's associated maladies are killing us! I'm calling for every working person in Brownsville to unite and to expropriate the wealth of the neer-do-wells and NOW! None of these over-the-top wealthy parasites have worked a day in their lives nor would they know how! Let us watch as they parade through town doing the walk of shame! To the GALLOWS with them all!

  5. So basically we are screwed since back door deals have been made? We will have to put up with a drunk loudmouth who knows it all or a disgraced exchief who let the brownsville department fall apart?

  8. Senior folks: kiss you SS check good bye. GOP’s quest for a generation, rip off Medicare and Social Security. Jobs in danger by Coronavirus: 10 Million in the Airlines, 6 M in Tourism, 2 M in the Oil industry, 2 M in Banking, Half M in Cruises, 16 M in Retail. In 2008 crisis, Bush got the cooperation of the world’s 20 largest countries. Now, Trump has to do it solo as he’s shot his Big Fat Mouth against the whole world including closest allies. $10 trillions needed to bale out people and US industries from collapse in times of Trump’s record $multi-trillion annual Deficits. When bankruptcy is near, the Republicans will eliminate Medicare and Social Security.

  9. The Trump administration's "monstrous idea": Direct payments in exchange for Social Security cuts

Donald Trump and his administration will stop at nothing to cut Social Security. Suddenly concerned about the growing national debt now that corporations have secured access to trillions of dollars in COVID-19 bailout funds with little oversight, Trump administration officials are reportedly considering several proposals purportedly aimed at reducing government spending — including a pair of plans that would provide Americans with cash payments in exchange for delays or cuts to their Social Security benefits.

In addition to weighing a push for automatic federal spending cuts that would take effect once the economy rebounds from the coronavirus crisis, top White House economic officials are exploring a proposal floated by two conservative scholars that would allow Americans to choose to receive checks of up to $5,000 in exchange for a delay of their Social Security benefits.

  10. It’s time to establish a new standard for our coverage of Trump.

Journalists should still write down what he says, just as we should always listen to the cocoa puffs when they call. But the urgency of our investigations should be informed by what sort of substantiation Trump and his surrogates provide.

Does the press have an obligation to debunk every allegation he makes, even the vague and tissue-thin charges he makes on a regular basis? Who made him our assignment editor?

Trump has cried wolf so many times — deliberately wasting journalistic resources by sending reporters off to investigate spurious charges — that it’s now incumbent upon him to invest his charges with some tangible proof if he expects reporters to follow his lead. At the very least, Trump should explain what law was broken by former President Obama and cite its page number in the legal code, offer to share with journalists the evidence he has collected, and present the criminal or civil complaint he has filed.

Unless and until he does that, reporters have no duty to publicize his blabber.

  11. No one fights harder to willfully remain ignorant than modern-day republicans. They don't want to see what's in their President's tax returns, they don't want to know what he owes Putin and Russian oligarchs. They don't want to know how he's bankrupted countless businesses or run scams like his fake "charity" or fake "university". They don't want to learn anything about science. They don't want to follow even the most basic safety precautions against COVID-19.

Trying to inform Republicans against their will is like trying to prevent an angry, reckless child from jamming a fork in an electrical outlet. Except that the crazy child at least has the excuse of being a child, not an adult.
