RACISM, ONCE AGAIN, REARS ITS UGLY HEAD IN BROWNSVILLE

From the editor:  There is no place for racism on the city commission or in our political arena.  The report that Nurith Galonsky's campaign posters have been defaced with Nazi swastikas, horns, etc. is very disturbing.  We publish Galonsky's statement below:

"Many of you may not know that I am Jewish, but I was born and raised Jewish.

You can only imagine the disappointment I felt when I received news that some of my campaign signs in front of the Main Public Library had been vandalized.

Why would someone put a swastika (a symbol synonymous with Adolf Hitler and used by Nazis during WWII) on my forehead and horns atop of my head?

In light of yesterday’s killing in San Diego, I find it unnerving that a hate crime like this could happen in Brownsville.

I am reminded of one of the questions District 1 and 2 candidates were asked at the Frontera Progressives candidate forum: Would we support a no tolerance policy for hate speech?

We don’t want to believe that discrimination exists in our country, much less in Brownsville.

Sadly, it’s a reality all of us must confront. I, myself, will file a police report to see if they can investigate this outrage against our community.

After all, there are cameras outside of the Stripes and library. Brownsville must never tolerate hate crimes.

We cannot have anymore incidents like the ones in Pittsburg, New Zealand and so many other places around the world."

  1. This is completely unacceptable Jim. I can’t vote for her but wow brownsville never stops surprising me. One thing it to criticize them and another is to damage property. Hope they catch them and expose them on tv and newspapers.

  2. Why did no one make a big fuzz when Jerrys was attacking Guerrero non stop week after week? I don’t see anyone worried about that hate attack on him.

  3. You obviously don't read this blog. I made frequent reports on Jerry's "los juniors" attacks. You're simply not informed.

  4. No I know you did Jim. I read your blog everyday. But everyone else that’s making a big fuzz about this. It has been happening since the candidates announced.

I like your blog Jim. good information and you don’t sugar coat anything. Always speak the truth and don’t pick sides. It’s a good blog for us to check into and see how our politics are going in our city, with out bad mouthing and no nudity. Nice and clean reports .
    Great job

  5. Get over it! Los Juniors is about as racist as calling Jim Barton a gringo.

  6. The Guerrero issue is interesting especially in light of the undocumented workers issue which does have a lot of people in Brownsville mad they are coming. So there is a growing hatred which needs to be denounced. But with Latino's being somewhere in the area of 90%+ of the population, it is not the same as being a super minority as Jewish. It is never wrong to denounce all hate, but there is a big big difference in being Latino in Brownsville, or Jewish.

I debated the Guerrero issue as to whether I should cover it. Another blogger denounced Jerry almost daily on the issue. For me this was one of Jerry's distractions to avoid the issues, so I chose to stay on the issues instead of taking the bait of Jerry's distraction. Attacking someone for being Jewish is not a distraction from the issues, it is an attack on humanity.

  7. The religion of a candidate is taken into account in national and state taxes but not in local taxes for some reason. I think the religion of a candidate is important even in local races because it gives a voter a view on how a candidate stand on a certain issue. Would Valley interfaith endorse a candidate that does not believe Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior! Would they endorse an atheist? I think forums should include the question of what religion a candidate is.... so voters can make a more accurate decision if a candidate represents their views.

    2. Try reading the Bible dumbass. Jesus was a Jew.

    3. Jews do not believe Jesus is the son of God... they do not believe he was the messiah. God said “if you deny the son.. you deny the father” the only sin that is not forgiven is not accepting Jesus as the son of God. Read the Bible you ignorant person. Jews killed Jesus and deny him being the sin of God.... Muslims do not believe in Jesus either.... it’s going to be hot in eternity.... so do not dress warm. REPENT.... THE TIME OF FULFILLMENT IS AT HAND....

  8. If a candidate does not believe Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior... they should have no problems saying it to the voters. Be proud of your beliefs... do not be a hypocrite and go to all different people of religions and pretend you are one of them to get their vote. Do you believe Jesus died for our sins or not. That simple.

    1. You shallow-ass, dickless punk! Keep religion out of politics, slime-ass. I want a representative who knows his governing shit, not what psalm or proverb he wants to throw at me. God damn you!

    2. You are 74 years old Duardo Paz Martinez. Posting these childish comments... at your age? Grow up old man... and start following God’s wishes.... there is still hope for you yet. Of course that means to stop writing and speaking I’ll of others... God says to not do that....: but at your age you might be too far gone.... I will pray for you, you old sinful relic.

  9. To the wannabe Cristero (google Cristero Rebellion if you don’t know what I’m talking about) at 7:19 and 8:09AM, I guess ethnic and religious insults are fair outing of a candidate’s religious beliefs according to your reasoning. Time fir a basic middle school civics lesson - Article 6, Constitution of the United States - “.....but religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.”
How about the first amendment of the Bill of Rights? Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof......

Sorry Sir, The Inquisition and Salem witch trials are over, despite the intentions of today’s Religious Right. I have no time for you self righteous bleating trying to force your version of nirvana on the res5 of society. Separation of church and state!

  10. Separation of church and state goes for laws, pendejo. The comments made were about the religion of a candidate. Federal and state candidates are asked this question on debates. Pro-life candidates are usually backed by Christians and catholics. Candidates who’s religion views are on par with a certain voter, gets his vote, menos. If you want to spin something I suggest you go sit on the far end of a bat... and start spinning.... you educated pendejo!

  11. So Since the “I am a Mexican from Southmost” card is not working for poor Nurith, she is trying the “I am a racially persecuted Jew” route. Thank god the good people of Southmost are not falling for her bullshit.

  12. And how long are those signs going to remain? I find them offensive for so many reasons. I would think that the Jewush community would find leaving them up as disrespectful to the faith as well as to any Holocast survivor or family member. Not my land, not my face, but it is my district. Remove those signs.

    1. You're an idiot, Vela. Better would have been if every candidate in these races had immediately defaced their own signs with the same NAZI bullshit.

    2. Yea, Vela, FUCK YOU, you son of a bitch!

    3. Brilliant response, maybe you should eat a Snickers bar or something. You're a bit testy when you're hungry. The sign needs to be taken down.

  13. At least I put my name to my comment and I do not resort to name calling. I still want the sign either cleaned up or taken down. Imagine leaving a defaced sign like that being left up at the Southmost Library. So what are you trying to say? The candidate defaced the sign?
