WILL YOU FORGIVE CASCOS FOR LEAVING US IN 2015?

Carlos Cascos, Candidate for Cameron County Judge in 2018

We hear you, understand your disappointment when Carlos Cascos vacated his position as Cameron County Judge in 2015, after just being elected in 2014, to take the Secretary of State job.

Of course, we could view it as if we'd sent Cascos off to graduate school to have his skills honed, gaining experience and contacts that would make him even more useful on his return.

Meanwhile, we were stuck with Pete Sepulveda, Jr., as interim County Judge, and Ol' Pete, in his best Ernie Hernandez impersonation, misused county materials and labor for an unauthorized road.  Dammit Pete!

Cameron County Judge Eddie Trevino, Jr.
Eddie Trevino, Jr., raking in a small fortune lawyering the ill-fated Tenaska deal,  won the 2016 election in large part due to his promise to oppose a road on the space once occupied by the Union Pacific Railroad tracks in West Brownsville.

That West Rail Road appears almost inevitable now, although, not as a toll road as was foolishly proposed originally.  The 100 foot easement allows for a road/bike trail combo, sometimes hyped as a Palm Boulevard style promenade, but through third world type housing.

This issue will be on the next county judge's plate, along with the development of a regional Metropolitan Planning Organization.

Many feel Cascos is best equipped to deal with these issues if they can get past his departure in 2015.

    3. Instead of posting a question as your title Jim, why don't you tell your readers who you would vote for and tell us how you feel about Cascos accepting the TSOS position. Stop the kids play Jim, tell us dammit!

    4. It was nice to see a Brownsville native rise so far. Cascos should have continued to aim high, taking down the corruption in the state rep or state senate. What is the point of running for an old seat? That's almost like admitting you're a shooting star, you rise, you fall, back to square one. He should have, and could have, won higher. Trevino hasn't done enough wrong, and the GoP has been trashing our environment, our people, so much it will be hard to convince anyone to pull the lever for a republican in these times. When you have someone like Trump who has defined the GOP as the party of child molesters and freaks. Especially not, when Trevino stood up against LNG, and stood up against the west rail road. The last thing we need is another Lucio-like sellout, sympathetic to the Republicans and their goal of giving everyone in the valley cancer if it makes them a buck.

  4. Nothing to forgive. The democrat julian castro left his job as san antonio mayor to be HUD secretary, bush left the governorship to be president, democrat senator tim kaine would have left his seat to be VP had hillary won. So what's the big deal. I'm glad he's back and willing to run and serve again. He was a good and fair county judge and i will vote for him again. By the way i am a democrat that will support the best candidate.

  5. Come on Jim....the choice is an easy one for the voters this coming election. do they want a self serving county Judge that has demonstrated time and time again he is looking out to enrich himself on the backs of the tax payers....or do you want a proven leader in Cascos who does not look to enrich himself on the backs of the tax payers. do you want a leader like Eddie Trevino who has lied time and time again to the voters or a leader who tells them the truth. Cascos took the opportunity to serve us in a higher capacity when he took the SOS position. He is a proven leader that has open communication in Austin....Eddie Trevino? Good luck getting on getting a call thru to leaders in Austin. Cascos is the choice the voters know and will vote for again.....Eddie will find that out this coming November.

  7. To Trevino's credit, he opposed the road being built on west rail, so that the people in that neighborhood could have beautiful, peaceful family walk areas. Trevino also was the lone vote against LNG turning south padre into a sludge factory. Both of those were good calls and he has my support. I like Cascos too but I wish he had run for something else. This is a sad case of two decent candidates but only one can be chosen, while shit on a plate in other races run unopposed.

    1. Trevino lied to the opponents of a road to get elected. Today he has changed his position to allow for a Road. As far his Lng vote, he knew where the votes were and he couldnt convince the others to vote against it. Where's the leadership?

  8. Xotchil Llamas, the assistant to Eddie Trevino is an ugly person, and I do not mean her looks...although I am not saying she is the epitome of beauty either. She has a foul mouth and her bestie is Sylvia Garda Perez. She speaks in Spanish and has the mouth of a sailor. What she brings to the Trevino political table is a mystery. She has the tact of a pirate. A liability for any candidate in my opinion.

  9. Morgan loves Carlos Cascos ... Carlos Cascos loves Morgan... Hmmmm.
But what about all these texts that Wightman has regarding Cris Valadez being the reason Carlos Cascos resigned as Secretary of State due to self-serving. That sounds about right.
