County Judge Eddie Trevino |
Our Cameron County Commissioners just gave Rio Grande LNG $373,100,000 in tax abatements, over 90% of its tax obligation.
Why in the hell did the Brownsville Herald do a front page story about the county's decision to issue the tax abatements WITHOUT including the actual amount of the tax forgiveness? Boys and girls, again, its $373,100,000 your commissioners are giving this multi-billion dollar firm to locate at the Port of Brownsville.
Of the $37 million in remaining tax obligation, the commissioners court is kindly allowing Rio Grande LNG to forego another $10 million in tax in lieu of so-called "community benefits." Thus, out of an estimated $410 million in tax obligation, the county will receive only $27 million or 6% of what the company would owe, more precisely .06585 of their fair share.
Just out of curiousity, was Rio Grande LNG threatening to move their operation to West Texas if Cameron County didn't fork over the $373 million? Doubt it. As usual, "we" were bidding against ourselves, not smart strategy.
It's time to drain the compadre swamp of officials that are only in it for themselves.
ReplyDeleteIn a 4-1 decision, Cameron County has elected to give Rio Grande LNG tax abatements.
ReplyDeleteCountyJudge Eddie TreviΓ±o Jr. was the only dissenting vote.
Supporters and opponents alike appeared before the Cameron County Commissioner’s Court on Tuesday morning to give their final thoughts on the issue — so many, in fact, that TreviΓ±o limited each person to two minutes of comments.
TreviΓ±o the dissenting vote? Damn! I lost a bet he'd be leading the charge for tax breaks to LNG... so now I gotta take it up the ass or pay the 100 dollar bet. Reading the blogs, I thought Trevino was a rat, corrupt to the bone, ready and willing to bend over for the right price or referral. Isn't this the same Eddie TreviΓ±o who squeezed more than a million from PUB in legal fees? Isn't this the same weasel who promised not to pave over the west loop? Wow, it turns out he was the only one to see the devastation wrought by LNG compared to the few jobs. I don't know. Something smells fishy. He just looks guilty of something. As for the commissioners who voted for the tax breaks: fuck you. Brownsville deserves better. Compare: De Leon saying stupid shit in private, bad. Not "lynch him" bad. Not collecting 373 million from LNG is BAD BAD BAD. Ignorant or corrupt or both, our own homegrown representatives voted NOT to collect 373 million from a multibillion corporation. Bad bad bad. Really bad. If you own property, sell it now. It will be worth half in five years.
ReplyDeleteTrevino only voted against it so he can start to look more Of a centrist cause he knows Cascos is going to run against him for county judge next year.
ReplyDeleteWtf are these idiot county commissioners doing your selling out the tax payers of this county fuck you!!
