What was the theme of last night's Cameron County Republican meeting? Did the group formulate strategy to differentiate itself from the local Democrat Party, rocked recently by racist comments of a young city commissioner and reports of corruption?
Did the Republicans even issue a statement denouncing racism?
No such luck!

The most compelling idea coming forward from the G.O.P. conclave was a proposal for a sort of Republican Karaoke night suggested by Sharon Batterson. Make Harlingen Sing! is the working title.
If the demographics of the group is similar to those we've walked in on in recent years, music by 50's heartthrob Pat Boone might be suitable karaoke material.

In other notable party business, former County Judge and Secretary of State Carlos Cascos was named a precinct chair. Hopefully local party officials and Carlos himself are considering a more critical role for the popular Republican.
On a somber note, Chairman Graham announced the passing of longtime Republican official Dagoberto Barrera, known simply as "Dag" by many. Mr. Barrera frequently addressed the city and county commissions with the admonition to "Live within your means!"

Excuse you for posting false information. The Karaoke comment from me was directed at the county party secretary in a moment of levity, as she has just recently lost her husband and she and I happen to like karaoke. Check your facts next time. Or from whom you get your facts.

ReplyDeleteGet a grip, "Sharon." It was a lighthearted story. The puffiest of puff pieces. It was such a meaningless meeting that karaoke night was among only three things worth mentioning. I think everyone but you got it.
