Does Carlos Cascos Understand Our Country's Racial Divide?

Former Secretary of State Carlos Cascos
After the violence in Charlottesville and the ensuing media give and take, former Cameron County Judge and Secretary of State, Carlos Cascos, posted the following:

"A few days ago I posted a story regarding Ted Cruz's comments about the confederate monuments. I posted a comment, basically asking questions. My post reached over 3,400 people & received many comments. I support open dialogue & differing opinions & I thank my readers for their courteous participation. Some may have inferred that I supported these racist groups, such as the KKK or Neo Nazis. NO WAY. But I also do not support destruction of public property without a due process. Bigotry, racism, violence, murder or destruction of property should not be tolerated, regardless of any perceived justifications by the perpetrators. So my questions are now....Are these monuments to Confederates coming down because they were traitors to the US or are they coming down because they supported slavery/owned slaves or both? Assuming these reasons are justifiable, what is to be done with Cities or Counties that are named after Confederates? In Texas alone, we have 19 counties named after members of the Confederacy. The changing of names of streets, buildings, parks etc. is simple, but we must follow due process in doing so. I'm reading now that the removal of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson & others are being encouraged because they were slave owners. So, my original question, albeit rhetorical, is...where does it end?"

Cascos, whose affiliation with the Republican party has sometimes been called into question, precisely echoes Donald Trump on this issue. Carlos is not faking it.  He reflects Breitbart and Trump's base.

Almost no one, excepting Trump, Breitbart and the extreme right see a close identity between Robert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis, leaders of the anti-American confederacy, and George Washington and Thomas Jefferson.

Yet, Cascos reflects that view in his words above.

Boys and girls, Carlos Cascos is a real, actual, card-carrying Republican, a Trump Republican.

Cascos does make a good point:

"But I also do not support destruction of public property without a due process."

The destruction of monuments in Durham, NC by protesters, without authorization or approval, spitting on and kicking the downed monument for the cameras, was illegal and disgraceful.  Cascos was absolutely right insisting on "due process."

Yet, his arguments above veer slightly offtrack. Almost no one, even those offended by statues of Robert E. Lee and Confederate flags, is calling for obliteration of the memory of George Washington and Thomas Jefferson.  That proposal is a Breitbart/Trump created fear.

Carlos Cascos stated for many years:  "I didn't leave the Democratic Party.  The Democratic Party left me."

Carlos, now, has to decide if he is really aligned with Trump Republicanism or has the Republican Party now "left him."

This wasn't Trump or Brietbart. this was on CNN.

  2. It wasn't so long ago that you responded to accusations of cultural reappropriation. "Almost no one" is bitching about that issue but you spoke against the movement and pointed out the downward spiral of acting in order to satisfy the "almost no one."

There is a response to that movement at this time as well: where does it end?

    Sound familiar?

It's hypocritical Jim. He wrote a post about a national question. You dedicated multiple posts about some woman nobody has heard of making art nobody will buy. Both of you agree on the principle and the only difference here is you've already been told what position to take instead of objectivity.

C'mon Jim. I read both of his posts. What I took from the posts was as Cascos statee, where are we going with this and where does it end. More importantly, how far are these removals going to go. As obvious from the many comments, there are differing opinions. I see this issue as the proverbial slippery slope and not coming from Fox news or Brietbart or Trump. CNN as well as MSNBC are commenting regarding Washington and Jefferson. Get the popcorn.

  4. Jim, apparently it isn't just the Republicans that don't give a shit about the moderate majority of America. Based on your stance as well that of the relevance-poor DPM, you want extremism that does not allow for the free exchange of ideas to prevail. The greater value is under attack and you're helping to dig the trench.

  5. No matter what you sulphur based albinos like Barton post you are racist and the movement knows what you stand for. Hiding behind the brown man today isn't gonna work. These fake sentiments are just being written by white men trying to distract from their racist blood and entitlement. Look at all the white men running these blogs! They havent apologized for their entitlement and are looking for a misguided brown brother to pick on thinking it will wash their sins away as they wallow in the turds of pigs!

    Change is coming Whitey!
