Nixon, Trump, Russkies and Comey

Exiting FBI Director James Comey
Russians giggled in their vodka. First, they'd influenced the American presidential election, now the U.S. justice/legal system.

Richard Milhous Nixon gave a thumbs up from the grave.

"Donald, you did right, boy.  I did the same thing in firing that bastard, Special Prosecutor Archibald Cox, who was getting into my business in Watergate," whispered the ghost of Nixon.

Donald Trump fired FBI Director James Comey Tuesday, a day after Comey testified that the investigation into collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russians was ongoing and subpoenas were issued by a grand jury to fact-find in the Michael Flynn matter.

While the spin coming from the administration cites Comey's handling of Clinton's emails as rationale for the firing, the released termination letter from Trump to Comey shows Trump had only the probe in his campaign's Russian ties on this mind:

"While I greatly appreciate you informing me, on three separate occasions, that I am not under investigation, I nevertheless concur with the judgment of the Department of Justice that you are not able to effectively lead the Bureau."

It just gets curiouser and curiouser.

The irony is that old Trickie Dickie might understand firing law enforcement officials who were getting too close for comfort, but, he likely wouldn't support mollycoddling the Russkies.

  1. Here is where the national press corp is missing the story. Why was he not fired when he messed up and made incorrect comments about clintons' emails before the vote? If that is in fact the problem then he should have been fired from day one, but that mistake helped Trump, so it did not matter. All Trump has done is put Republican Senators in a bad spot, and kept what may not even be a big story beyond Flynn going and going.

  2. Trump is a joke. A smart media manipulator, but once the media even starts writing about what a good manipulator he is, what is left? The saddest realization is the media are the ones keeping him relevant, because he drives hits and interest into their own websites. CNN and FOX must have double digit ratings compared to viewership during Obama's tame tenure. Do you think they want to give that up? Trump is driving up their stock, importance and valuation, all the while complaining about the "fake" media, but that is his stock and trade, manufactured conflict.

  3. The real story is that the Clintons are as corrupt as RGV politicians and Obama spied on many of his enemies.

    1. That will always be the "real" story for those so blinded by partisanship they can't see the constitutional dangers obvious in Trump's mindset.

The Clinton's abused and tarnished their governmental connections to make an obscene amount of money. That has no relevance to Trump's dim witted, sloppy abuse of power and attempted obstruction of justice.
